Carplay radios

Does anyone have suggestions for Apple Carplay compatible radios? Are any of them wireless yet?

Guru Woodman 10-12-2016 11:04 PM

I have a Kenwood DNX693S.

There is info in the thread here

It is a great unit. I love it. Screen is crisp and fast. It has Garmin GPS I use as a because Apple Maps use data and I am not always in a spot where I have good cell reception. It is a wired setup, which I actually prefer because I always have a charged phone. I think wireless is still in beta testing. As far as I know, there are no bluetooth carplay units yet.
As for the Carplay part, it is great when it works but it tends to hang sometimes. I have to turn it off and on again to make it work again. I am pretty sure it will be solved in the future with a firmware update. I have had two updates so far.

My sony XSPN1BT (with phone dock) for $150 kicks the shit out of carplay imo.

I don't think that was OP's question. He specifically asks for info about Carplay units, not which head unit is the best.

Before you know, this thread will derail into a iPhone versus Android pissing contest :barf:

tooo true.
I have the Pioneer 4100NEX
Its feature rich, but the UI response is slower than I like. also the removable screen tends to sometimes get a slight rattle in our bouncy cars.
idk if the 4200 is faster. If I get a new HU for the FRS ill def go back to one without a detachable screen.

I don't think carplay or auto offer wireless yet, but both have announced they are working on it.

I use auto, so I can't speak to the carplay feature on the 4100, but I can say the unit itself is good, but has room for improvement in some areas.

Screen lag is the main reason why I waited so long for the unit I have now. The screen is very responsive, sharp and easy to use. I think it has a Linux operating system and it works like any head unit should in 2016. The DNX893S has a larger 7" screen and accommodates Android Auto. You loose the volume button though.

I don't believe there are any wireless solutions as yet unfortunately. I use a Pioneer AVIC-F70DAB that has been super fast and responsive in every way, but to be honest I have never really used Carplay, bar a test of the turn by turn navigation, which worked surprisingly well.

Would totally buy the same unit again if faced with the need in future. Just the next version obviously.

Is there any Carplay headunits that is 200mm x 100mm? Fitting in the stock radio bezel with no adapters on the side.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm interested in this HU. I'm wondering, where do you get the trim pieces to fill in the gaps on either side?

Thanks.

Guru Woodman 02-25-2017 09:45 PM

If I recall correctly the filler pieces are made by Metra.

I googled for you and I think these are the ones
