How do I fix my jack?
I have a steel hydraulic floor jack. Today I took it out to work on the car. At some point in the past month since it was out last it got turned upside down, & there's some oil residue on the top of it. Now when I jack it up, there's real bad creep. I barely had time to get the jack stands under before the jack started to lower.
I assume some fluid leaked out, though that tiny bit of residue isn't much at all. Maybe it just needs to be bled? Does anyone know about hydraulic jacks, and what kind of fluid can I use if it needs to be topped off? |

Bubba says that any kind of oil will do ......:) humfrz |
I had a feeling you may have some info on this, TY

I finally got around to doing this. Procrastination FTW! Actually, FTL....
My jack must have a blown seal on the ram, it is still creeping albeit a lot less now. I guess it's time for a better jack. |

(you can pump up that sucker just so many times ..... then it won't pump up no more ......:() I had a "made in Taiwan" floor jack that I bought about 50 years ago that finally gave out to the point I couldn't get the blocks under the car fast enough. So, my darling mrs humfrz, bought me a new one for X-Mass last year. Yep, a super duty one, that I could lift up 3 whole FR-S's all at once .......:D She has a good heart ......:) humfrz |
Best bang for your buck is the harbor freight jack. I have the 4 ton low profile jack and it's a beast. Only thing I've brought from harbor freight thats actually good haha. You can always get the 20% off coupon that always comes in the mail too. I paid like 50 bucks for my jack I've used it countless of times without issue.

I just checked it's a 3 ton jack not 4 but it's beastly promise.

Yesterday Northern Supply sent us a mailer (how's that for timing?) with a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase and there's a nice low pro aluminum jack for sale for $60! Today I'm going to go pick it up- $50 for an aluminum jack is pretty damn good and it's a lot better than the one it's replacing.
