2013 models?
Hi everyone.
I read something somewhere that said you should either avoid 2013 models all together, or you should only buy within a certain manufacture date - is there any truth to that? I'm in the lookout for an FRS and I think I may have found a good example in my area. 2013, one owner lease, stupid low miles (about 5k), comes with navigation system, looks clean all around. Before I go check it out I wanted to see if there was anything I should know about 2013's. |
Mines a heavily modified '13 and so far zero issues, hell even the chipping is minimal if at all now.
edit: and I drive the shit out of it lol |

But... At this point in time I wouldn't worry to much about it. If they have lasted this long without issue they will probably be fine. If they did have an issue then it was probably fixed. Keep in mind that if the price is low enough you will more than save any money you would need to do any repairs. If you like the car then grab it. |
I have 2013 built in July or Aug 2013 and the only issue I have had is passenger window small water leak and it is being fixed under warranty as I write this. New window seal.
2012 built models had some teething issues. Is there any B2B warranty remaining? Drivetrain is covered to 60k miles. |
The only early model issue that pissed me off was my driver's side window getting scratches from raising and lowering it. The dealer replaced the felt in the door, problem solved. There really wasn't anything deal breaking about the early MY13s issues though.

I'd avoid early models of any car just for peace of mind.
The people above may have been lucky and you might get screwed over with a bunch of issues. Just wait another month and you'll find a newer MY for sure. |
Drove home 07.02.12. Now 63,000. No big issues.

2013 FR-S here, built 04/22/2013 - no issues.
If that puppy is a pretty color to you ........ I'd suggest you seriously consider it ..... humfrz |
No issues here. However, I would avoid like the plague any car that has been modded, especially cosmetically. In my personal experience (YMMV), cosmetic modders don't give a rats rear end about maintenance. Be wary of engine mods, and ask the dealer to make sure that the stock ECU firmware is there. Having a service record for oil changes is a plus as well.

Mine has a June 2012 build date. 40K miles/zero issues.

just make sure you've got the latest tune, b10c and if not, then update it by taking it to the dealership. if there are any maintenance issues, well that comes with the territory of buying a used car at a discount.

2013 BRZ here, only issue so far was the noisy shifter which was replaced under warranty. My only recommendation would be that the car you're looking at has had the oil changed at least a couple times a year, and not by the 7500 mi interval that it hasn't reached yet.
