Tips for using the touch up paint pen?
 

So i just purchased the silver ignition touch up paint pen for my 10 series frs

I have a few scratches and chips I would like to fill in with this and was just wondering if anyone has tried this before? Does the color match perfectly with the original paint on the car? Also does anyone have any tips for me as far as how to clean the area before i paint it and is it better to use the brush or the pen tip when I go to paint? any pointers are appreciated. Thanks Guys!

No matter what you do its still going to be somewhat noticeable but will deff need some serious buffing to even make it look something that resembles acceptable.

If it is for small chips use a toothpick to apply the paint.

If using a small brush, dab the area, don't brush it on side to side. Start high in case the paint drips a little.

I have small chips so ill use a toothpick for those. How about small scrapes? like a car scraped against the side of my car while backing out so now i have small scrapes/scratches on the side. Do I use the brush for those?

Have you tried buffing them out 1st or is it actually down into/through the paint?

Hard to say without actually seeing what the damage looks like. Have you tried any polishing to try to minimize the appearance of the scratches?

its scraped down to the paint like it shows the black under neath the paint. Ill try to take some pictures later to show you guys. I know it wont be perfect I just hope the scrathes and scrapes will at least be unnoticeable when you look at the car from a short distance. I like to go outside and just stare at my car a lot lol

The first pointer is to get all the old wax off the area. Alcohol works good for that.

Secondly, I suggest you have someone in your circle of friends/relatives, with artistic ability, to do the "painting". A lot of us go at it like we were whitewashing a wooden fence.

Thirdly, follow the advice mentioned above.

Even after all of that, it will probably look like shit at first ...... it will be less noticeable after a few weeks ...... ;)

I just used one for the first time last week on some small chips and a poorly touched-up bumper scrape that was on the car when I bought it. My results were underwhelming, to say the least. At least there's no bare metal or primer showing now, but, unless someone's got some magic tips for both of us, I think you can give up on the pipe dream that the touch-up pen will allow either of us to hide the chips and scrapes completely. I'm learning to be happy that at least there's some paint on the car in places where there wasn't any.

Pens are, IMHO, mediocre and the color has never matched for me.

I cleaned my bumper, then I taped off all my chips. Then sprayed some color in the chips. Two lite coats. The color is perfect. It looks good/better.

Here you go. I took a few tips out from this vid. Being lazy, I did a "good enough" job on any chips that I have. Though, I mostly focus on parts that can rust now compared to say, the front bumper which I stopped caring about.

As mentioned previously, toothpick method and letting the paint drip into the chip. Apply more layers as needed.
