3 years / 36,000 miles
 

I tried to search the threads but nothing I found was really too helpful and a lot of stuff to go through. So I have owned 3 different cars, but two with the generic warranty, 3 years or 36,000 miles. My question really is how does Subaru's timeline with the same warranty hold up? You guys that are past the warranty window have any major problems? If you had a problem within the window did they fix it quickly or give you a hard time?

My 3 experiences with my cars have been:
1st VW golf 2.Slow(second owner/clean carfax)- Total mess. Had to fix the flowing: Rear springs, Headliner, Radio, tail lights, all of the hinges, key fob and Front Control Arms. needless to say terrible buy
2nd 2008 bmw 3 series (new)- nothing during my warranty period but the second I hit three years....Fuel pump, Door locks, and lastly auto level headlight sensor.
3rd TDI (new)- same deal, three years with no problems, but bam then they add up. Light control CPU, headliners, door handle, and oil pump.

Now some of you may think I may not take care of my car but I baby them. Garage kept, regular maintenance (oil, breaks, fluids), weekly washes and yearly wax. I always get to the year term before miles because I drive about 500 miles a month. So before I hop into the 17 BRZ, just want to know your guys experiences.:thanks:

You coming from VW AND BMW? Then you really got nothing to worry about.

There's also a 7/100 powertrain warranty (I think?).

Basic Warranty...covers everything...36months, 36,000 miles.

Powertrain Warranty...60 months, 60,000 miles.

Early adopters of the car (2013 model) had some problems, mostly minor.

Later models, no problem.

I have a 2015 FRS, manual trans car. Just turned 36,000 miles, just under two years old. There was nothing wrong with my car requiring warranty repairs during the lst 36,000 miles. I bought the car new, beat the piss out of it from the get go...ignored any engine break-in period.
I'd not expect any problems to crop up soon, just because I hit the magic 36k miles. And I'd never consider an extended warranty...a waste of money.
The engine in this car has proven to be one of Subie's best so far.
The car is made in Japan.
Best car I've ever owned, and I've owned about 60 cars, including many used cars.

Best way to enjoy any new car is to read everything about it in forums. Then when you think something might be wrong with a particular part of your car, you'll likely find...they're all that way...so therefore, no reason to take your car to the Stealership to fix something which can't be fixed. Ex: The side windows on this car...they're all that way, creak once in a while, even with updates they did at the factory in 2014 or 2015...so live with it.

Bottom line...buy Japanese, and Made in Japan if you don't wanna be in a service dept. often.

I'm at 35,900 miles right now and my car has had exactly two things go wrong:

1.) A metal band clamp on the exhaust heat shield came loose shortly after purchase. I fixed that myself in 90 seconds by crawling under the car and tightening it. Hasn't come loose since.

2.) Just a few weeks ago, got the entire clutch assembly replaced due to what we thought was a bad throw-out bearing, but it isn't fixed because the same issue is coming back now.

The issues you've listed with ze Germans are indicative of those brands and generally not something you'll have to worry about on a '14+ twin. That isn't to say it is completely impossible, shit happens, but much much much less likely. That's three muchs worth.

With a BRZ you're likely to experience rattles, quirks (e.g. harmless fuel pump chirp), and some other noises that may make you nervous, but prove benign with a little research. If you're looking for a manual I don't think anyone can give a concrete answer on the longevity due to some new engine components, but historically stay on top of your oil level / maintenance interval and you'll be fine for a long time. Besides, on a car with so much aftermarket support, broken parts are just an excuse for race car bits.

Rattles and quirks are classic standard features of das German autos I think he'll do just fine. :thumbsup:

Yeah, but in the German cars they lead to 4 - 5 digit repair bills, while in the BRZ they lead to forum posts that get derailed in the best possible ways. :cheers:

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I am no engineer but i am handy and can fix most small problems myself. I've done a lot of work on the cars myself to avoid some of those dealers trying to rape me for simple work. I don't expect for the 17 twin to be free of rattles or squeaks as the car is so light and economically built. I enjoy the process of research on the forums along with the DIY and car builds as well. Looks like with regular maintenance and check ups keep the BRZ running smoothly with no major hiccups, thanks again for the help!

I know you wrote words, but for some reason the only thing my mind can process is the guitar intro to Voodoo Child right now. Might have something to do with the image.

Not really that common. Prior to the BRZ I've had exclusively German cars for the past 15+ years (and still have an Audi). Never had a big repair bill, just small stuff like coils failing.
