Question about emissions testing - Vancouver WA.

Hey all,

I've had my FRS for a year now and am starting to do track days. I want to start doing some exhaust mods but don't know what's legal in Vancouver, WA.

Do I need to retain the catted header in order to pass the emissions test? What options do I have?

Thanks for any advice.

I just did my emissions test 2 weeks ago. In Oregon, They said because the car is less than 4 years old. I didn't have to do a test, then gave me the form to go to the DMV to get my tags.

If you swap headers you will get a CEL (Check Engine Light) and therefore you will not pass. But if you tune the car, as you should when swapping the OEM header for any other option, the tuner will take care of the CEL.

I highly recommend keeping the front pipe cat and that's it. Even if you swap front pipes, get one with a cat.

Thanks, I've been looking at the catted options.

I looked it up. If I understand the code, and that's a big "if," we don't ever have to get tested.

Thanks for doing the needful! I remember seeing a poster of all the codes at the DMV but too lazy to google. And the rules might have been different for each county so didn't want to post something inaccurate.

2) The following motor vehicles are exempt from emission test requirements:
(a) Motor vehicles that are less than five years old or more than twenty-five years old;
(b) Motor vehicles that are a 2009 model year or newer;

tl:dr the RCW was amended in 2010 that added the 2009+ model year exemption.

By Senators Swecker, Hatfield, Marr, Haugen, Berkey, Ranker, Sheldon,
and Kauffman

There was no Nays in the house or the senate.
