2017 BRZ suspension retrofit
The goal would be to improve ride quality without sacrificing control.
I'm thinking of retrofitting the springs and shocks from the 2017 setup to a 2013. Any idea how to do this / what parts to get? Any alternative/better ideas? |
Parts? springs and shocks like you mentioned.
You don't mention what ride quality and control means to you, what you're trying to achieve or what you like/dislike about your current setup. I'd suggest you wait until people start selling the used parts, or just get quality dampers(bilstein) and/or springs(rce yellows). |
I am suggesting the "improvement" of the '17 model is insignificant. If you were willing to go to the trouble and expense of going oem I would be more inclined to get some proper aftermarket dampers.
A budget would be helpful. |
Parts: 2017 springs and dampers
Alternatives: Aftermarket suspension - coilovers, or dampers and springs easy peasy titty squeezy - close thread |
I'm curious how they compare. If I recall, Subaru has softened (a.k.a. "refined") the suspension a little bit every year. 2013 should have the stiffest/harshest ride.

17 suspension should, in theory, just bolt right up... look thru this.
http://parts.subaru.com/Subaru_2017_...nd-Brakes.html you should be able to find any part number you need there Quote:

2017 BRZ's get a stiffer rear sway bar from what some articles are reporting, to tune out some of the understeer they have from the front biased spring rates.

I know they reinforced the subframe (with bracing, bushings, who knows???) and also the differential. |

I would prefer OEM while my warranty is in place, but it is not a super strong preference. Are there any specific aftermarket combos that you'd suggest? |

Budget $1000-2000

Some flex Z at $1K imho will outperform even supposedly improved MY2017 suspension. Between 1K & 2K there are even better options, like tarmac zeros, billsteins, KW V1, etc
|
You can even get KW v3's at that price range..

Maybe Koni dampers set to soft + stock springs.
They are an OE replacement spec so should not change warranty coverage in any way. Edit: Waiting a year to pickup someone tossing out the '17+ OE suspension for cheap seems like a lot of effort for only minor improvements, Koni's will be adjustable and retain their value on the used market as people look for used examples to have rebuilt for autox purposes for many many years to come. |
