alright, a few of you guys have shown interest in a DIY write up on facebook, so here ya go.

on mine, i also modified the foglight trim to accept the 2014 DRL lights, as i dont have fog lights and wanted to keep them. i wont be covering that too much as i dont have it mounted in there as cleanly as i would like just yet, but ill update this when i get around to it.
ok. so. first is the parts list.....
you will need the bumper, headlight housings, grille mustache piece, fog light trim, and the little side pieces next to fog light trim.
part numbers are as follows
57731CA450
57731CA460
57731CA470
57702CA280
57707CA180
57707CA190
57731CA350
57731CA360
subaru part numbers (north america, though i doubt they change them)

you will also need to either transfer the corner light bracket from the old bumper, or get new ones. i transferrred mine pretty easy, just drill out the rivet and rivet it onto the new one.

headlight brackets bolt right up

once headlight brackets are on, the 17 bumper attaches like oem. all bolt/clip holes line up, snaps right into place, just like putting your old one back on. pretty easy huh? lol.

DONT PUT YOUR BUMPER ON WITHOUT PUTTING ALL THE TRIM ON FIRST
the mustache grille piece clips in from the backside, and the fog light trim can be a little pain in the ass to clip in on the inside corners. wish i would have taken pics, but its pretty easy to figure out on your own.

grrr. looks like a race car :burnrubber:

heres a little pic i took of starting the drl modificaton to the bumper. this part is not seen with trim pieces in place and the light in place, so if i ever decide to back out of this part of the project i can always get fog lights (with new trim, of course) or the no-fog blank trim and nobody would ever know any different. since this picture was taken, i took an air saw to it and cut basically following that shape, little by little until the light had a good even mounting depth to it. i may need to do more modifications here (including mounting the light, haha! getting some metal or something in the next couple days to fab up some kind of solid mount. until then, zip tie all the things!!!:bonk: )

you can see the gaps i need to fill if you zoom in on the following few pics, but from standing by the car most cant tell (unless theyre people like us, who care and would pay attention to detail lols)

put it on. need to go to work and get a new badge and put my licence plate on. fucks no im not drilling holes in the new bumper!!!!

and finished, just in time for #FrontEndFriday !! im stoked, it looks bad ass!!! and it looks pretty factory as well. a good upgrade in my opinion. then again i did it all for employee cost and got painted by the homie hookup so thats why i dont include prices lol. i will add on to this later when i get the DRL mounted as cleanly as i would like. im also going to do the DRL always on mod too, personal preference.

there ya go. feel free to shoot questions below ill try to keep checking this and replying.

no, i do not know about the 17my headlights, and honestly dont plan on trying just because i like the 2014 better, but we will seeeeee.... enjoy!!:burnrubber::burnrubber:

pics may be out of order, it was a pita resizing and shit i tried to post links but i dont think that worked lol. anyways

Nice write up! though a bunch of the pictures early on aren't showing for me.
Would the same parts work for an FRS/GT86?

Summerwolf 09-23-2016 09:29 PM

Nice write up!

If you don't wanna reveal the cost of paint and service that's cool, but what was the cost for just the parts? I am in the process of debating this retrofit myself and this all factors into my cost benefit analysis.

Excellent write up tho! Many thanks to you for being the community trail blazer and getting this done!:clap::clap:

Also, do you remember if there were mounting brackets/ holes in the back of the bumper for an STi badge? The old model year bumper had a bracket moulded into the bumper. I am hoping I can transfer my STi badges over to the MY17.

Great write-up. Did you have any thoughts about ditching the stache and doing a custom grille for the bigger opening without the stache? It's a separate piece on that bumper cover, correct?

It's the one thing I really dislike about my BRZ, and I plan to cut that bitch off some day and do a custom grille. My car is black, so the stache is somewhat camouflaged, and I've added the GrillCraft grille in black - I'd love to have your new bumper minus the stache and plus a custom stainless mesh grille with the licence plate centered. My car has a little too much black on the front end - needs a little bling.

You've got me thinking now.

Thanks.

Wow nice

This is awesome, where did you pick up the 2017 bumper from?

Cockatoo 09-26-2016 12:29 PM

Good job!

willypongtb 09-27-2016 05:32 PM

nice like it

Bramick 09-27-2016 10:54 PM

Did the connection to the side of the bumper bi the fender change? IE fixes the gap issue or still a concern?

31x86 09-27-2016 10:56 PM

I'm waiting for someone to post up a tutorial for the new 86 bumper. Great write up though! 👌🏾
