Yup...you're exactly right. Nice built engine let go on Tuesday, a day before we were loading up for Mid-Ohio. It made really nice power on the dyno, before it let go. A conn rod cap broke.
Also broke the 4.56 diff at the same test. So, I had to go to my backup engine and stock diff. We had no time for a proper tune. So, I was way down on power. WAY down.
On the test day at Mid-Ohio, the supercharger broke as I pulled onto the track, but it was NOT the fault of the supercharger. In the rush to get the car back together, an assembly error was made and the supercharger ran without oil.
Luckily, Jackson Racing came to the rescue and they got me a new supercharger and on track in time for qualifying...my first laps around Mid-Ohio. They saved my week!
I was way down on power, but gave it my best shot. In the race, I think that the engine was finally telling me that enough was enough. On lap 15, I was black flagged for being over the sound limit. Yes, a sound limit. Dumb, I know. We'd been safely under the limit all week. Modified shift points in the race was the likely cause for the higher sound readings.
We learned a LOT about the car and we will be much stronger in 2017. I expect to compete for the top spot at Indy in 2017.
Congrats to Oscar on the huge win in T4 and podium in STU!!
