Vancouver to Mt. Hood

So I am starting to get everything together for the winter and I will be doing trips from vancouver to mt. Hood at least 3 or 4 times a month, I am wondering if Anyone else has taken their 86 up to timberline lodge and if they have what were the conditions when you went, I'm hoping with good winter tires getting to the mtn won't be a problem at all throughout the whole season.
Will it be do able, will I need chains?
What tires do you recommend?
Also anyone wanna cruise to hood and go boarding in the next coming months.

I drove mine up to Meadows in the snow. The car did great with Blizzak tires on. I didn't need or have chains. The only problem for our cars is the same as any car which is anything deep/taller than your car is low and ice. Ice with snow tires is much better than without and no matter what the car is, you just take it slow and don't jab the brake or throttle, nor do you shift in a way that would give too much torque or engine braking.
