86/brz parade?

Today, my friend invited me to s2k mega meet event.
They hosted a meet @ Sonoma raceway which I find something pretty cool.
At first, I thought it was just a car meet but with whole bunch of s2000, however, at 12PM, the host announce that all the s2000 like roughly about 80+ s2k are having "parade" in the "raceway" for 10-15 Laps. My jaw was dropped, and I was like dam. Also, they have very strict rule on safety, during the parade, we cannot overtake other people, tail gate people, and drive like a mature adult.

So I was thinking, that would be something pretty cool if we can do a 86/brz "parade" at the raceway. So what do you guys think? Is it possible?

Parade? At a motherfucking race track? Lol!!!!!!!
I rather drive it like how your suppose to at the track, at the cars limit.
Sounds more lamer than parking hard.

That seems like a tease more than anything else.

Not everyone wants to or even can track their car for whatever reason. Doesn't mean they can't like the idea of a good photo op or in the case of parade laps get a better perspective of what they watch as spectators.

Then you can drive how you want. How come s2k group can have spirit like that we can't ?
This idea was more toward like having fun as in large group, taking pictures, and feel the track. like finch said, not everyone wanna track their car to test their limit, but they can still have fun in the track and interact with other people.

Some people want fun, some people are serious.
Who knows, after a parade, when people get an better idea of track, and they might start liking it and track themself

How fast are you actually driving in the parade? I'd be interested because I'm babying my car right now.

I am planning to get a DD/Track BRZ/86 in the future though!

They kept the speed limit @ 50. I think its reasonable because imagine 80+ s2k driving at high speed......

I'd be down. As long as I'm not working, i'd totally be there.

Nice! 50 is a good number

A few points to raise... renting a track and getting permission to use it for 80+ cars takes a fair bit of planning ... and money. Renting a track is expensive. Not to say it can't be done. But I looked really quick at how the S2Ki guys did it. They leveraged it off an existing NASA track day at Sonoma. And the entrance fee per car was $10. That's not bad at all but probably took a lot of hard work and planning by the organizers to make it happen.

The good news... we have 86CUP and a fairly good relationship with some of the track day organizers like NCRC and SpeedSF and Exclusive Trackdays.

For the last 2 years, we've held NorCal's 86CUP season finale at Laguna Seca with NCRC in December. Our plan is to do the same this year. A number of both NorCal and SoCal time attack racers will be there. At both these previous events we got permission from the NCRC organizers to go out on track at the end of the day, and take a group photo. We did not do a full parade lap, but we got to line up on the track and take some cool shots.

The best part? Because of our good relationship with NCRC and how they operate -- entry into the Laguna Seca paddock is FREE. We had a number of guys who weren't racing on the track that day, just came through and hang with us all day at the track, and at the end of the day it was not only the competitors we were all invited to go out on track for the photo. I think that is a really cool opportunity for those of you who have never been on the track before.

For more photos from the day, see our coverage of last December's event:

How can we make this happen? Well this is just my opinion but I think we need to continue to foster the relationship with these organizations. That means recruiting more 86 drivers to participate and attend these track days with organizations like NCRC, SpeedSF, and Exclusive Track days. If we don't show up with good numbers throughout the season, they have little incentive to help us with the access to the race track. So if you are on the fence and thinking about checking out a track day, or signing up for a driving school, and are interested in learning more... come out and hang with us. You can watch the action, ask questions, maybe even catch a ride in our cars on track if you have a helmet. We are a friendly bunch and would love to have more people join us in the sport. Come out to an 86CUP event this season and help us grow.

@PMok Yea, that day, NASA was part of it, and it is also Miata and BMW cup I believe?
I also believe that if s2k club can do it,,we can do it as well. In fact, 86/brz is more than s2000....If we combine our power together, we'll be big.

chris.mutchler34 09-12-2016 01:40 PM

I was up there this weekend in my BRZ running in the HPDE 1 group for the first time. Saw the huge group of s2000s lined up, pretty cool to see the enthusiasm.

Sonoma was a great track and the NASA event was extremely well organized -- not to mention inexpensive for a full day of track time.
