2016 Fr-s rebuild and build
Hey everyone. My names Kunal, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Toronto. Little background on me: ive been doing auto body (bodywork and pepper, now apprentice painter) for almost 6 years now and I'm a certified machinist and now I'm in school for automotive design/industrial design.
The car: it's a 2016 Fr-s with 1035km. It was damaged in some accident and because I work in this trade I know how to fix this easily and properly. This is going to a be a rebuild to original condition and then build into street/occasional track car. I eventually want to go all out with this car and enter more serious races and cage the car but till then it will remain my street car and weekend grassroots track car. https://s18.postimg.org/id9l4507d/IM...906_081404.jpgupload images free https://s12.postimg.org/xci6nadyl/IM...906_081411.jpgimage upload no limit https://s9.postimg.org/y6ja9j9xb/IMG...907_084929.jpgimage free hosting It's a pretty easy fix. We deal with cars 5x as messed up at work and they come out looking like nothing ever happened. |
Did any airbags deploy? In usa, this car would have a salvaged title. Not sure what thats called in canada when its totaled like this.
|
Yeah it's salvage. Insurance down here will salvage the smallest of damage. I've seen cars completely side swiped needing a new door, quarter, fender head and tail lights not being salvage, and then there's cars like.mine which are minor accident cars being written off. Once I fix it and do my salvage safety it'll be branded rebuilt. The only airbag that deployed was driver curtain

How much did you pay for the car?

Nice looking car man,I love salvage cars,it's what I do for a living,I'm on my third frs now and the current one they said I was mental for buying..it's almost done now and the only original body pieces on the car is the passanger side quater panel, trunk lid,and rear bumper cover..drilled out over 500 spot welds and still counting..you have a nice little project there and I'm glad to see another 86 come back to life..cheers man

So the cars at my work place now. Boss is a real nice guy and is letting me keep it here and do all the work.
Got the complete suspension in from another crashed frs. Got my fender from the Subaru dealer locally. For anyone looking to buy replacement OEM fenders, call both Toyota and Subaru. Toyota quoted me $390 shop price and Subaru gave me the same thing at $270 shop price. Just waiting on my airbag and front bumper and I'll have this on the frame machine to be pulled. https://s12.postimg.org/7krrd7qot/IM...928_182750.jpgphoto hosting sites Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
Got the suspension swapped in. Car officially drives straight Lol. Now just waiting for the bumper to come in as well as a new front LCA and then it's onto the frame machine to be pulled and have all the panels lined up.

Started and almost finished my bodywork. My shops been real backed up and since I'm a student Im only able to go in twice a week. Got like 4 cars finished for my boss and started my car.
So this isn't necessary but just a peace of mind I like putting a layer of fiber glass down before my filler. If it was a smaller repair I wouldn't have done so and also the panel was pulled well so at most I've got like 2mm of filler on the deepest area. Fiber glass: https://s18.postimg.org/lws1hzix5/IM...019_180458.jpgphoto hosting sites Cut that down with a cheese file and a 40 grit on a block and got a layer if my lightweight on there. This is my favourite lightweight filler to use. It's consistency is basically like dolphin glaze or a metal glaze but it's a light weight filler. U-pol flyweight Gold. https://s15.postimg.org/qejo8jx57/IM...020_171603.jpgupload img https://s10.postimg.org/9sxurv7p5/IM...020_171614.jpgupload a gif DA'd it down with some 80 ans blocked it. https://s21.postimg.org/c1l9ogj2v/IM...020_180234.jpgadult picture hosting https://s11.postimg.org/gc964rbw3/IM...020_180248.jpgupload an image Still got a little bit more bodywork to do then I'll prime it. Gonna have it in 2k before I leave from work Saturday and planning to paint it next Wednesday when I'm back in. If anybody needs any tips or has any questions on bodywork let me know I'm glad to help. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
