Brace FRS/BRZ/86 trunk for GT Wing/Trunk lateral movement

This is my first DIY so bear with me. I'll try to be thorough...

I have the Rocket Bunny V1 GT wing on my FRS. I noticed I had a spot on my quarter panel, inside the trunk cavity, that had no paint! Only primer is left.

I determined that the extra weight of the wing was causing the trunk to "slide" sideways under heavy cornering. To solve this problem, bracing was needed. Not a big chassis mounted rack but something simple to keep the trunk in place yet fully functional. On the trunk shock/strut brackets there is a small tab. I drilled and tapped this tab (7/32 drill, 1/4 28 tap) to receive a socket head cap screw and a nut to lock it in place.

I got reinforced rubber boots from McMasterCarr(part number 2517T35 http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/1414/=14326za ) To cushion/protect my trunk lid.

Additionally I did a little welding/grinding on my trunk latch loop to make it better fit the latch mechanism. Its just a tiny bit wider but it made a big difference in the stability of the trunk lid.

So there you have it folks! My trunk has almost zero movement now as tested by grabbing my wing mounts and prying sideways. If you have any questions feel free to ask

@Ashikabi Did your trunk come with oem spoiler? If not then you probably didn't have the additional two rubber standing mounts(one on each side of the trunk lid) that actually came with oem spoilers that suppose to prevent the problem from occuring. Those without oem spoiler does not have those holes drilled. Here are two pictures comparing the trunk. If you look where the spoiler is located on the white brz, you'll see two rubber grommets and a rubber standing mount on each side on the trunk. If you look at the same spot for the ultramarine frs, it does not have the rubber standing mounts. If I'm correct, those two rubber standing mounts sit on top of the tabs that you tapped and drilled. http://icdn9.digitaltrends.com/image...view-trunk.jpghttp://www.canadianautoreview.ca/ima...cargo-open.JPG

I wondered why there was a little spot on the trunk lid... no I did not have a spoiler. Thanks for the info!
