Original TRD Parts for Toyota 86

Hi Guys

I found the link below for TRD Parts for the 86, TOYOTA SA says they can only order parts that have a relevant TOYOTA SA part number - if anyone could assist with part numbers for the below or on how to purchase these parts that would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome. That is a very long shopping list. TRD stuff is generally overpriced, for example the sunshade was R1000 landed 4 years ago. Toyota SA will not be able to get most of it. The best is to order directly from Japan.

Are you on the Cape Town WhatsApp group?

Hi Laser69

Thanks!

Toyota SA's response is that they cannot order the items - i.e. part number is not valid.

With the excpetion of the handful on the Toyota SA wbesite, I'd like to know who at Toyota SA picks the accessories for South Africa.

Any clue on how to order directly from Japan? Complete noob when it comes to these things.

Not on the whatsapp group, first time posting in a forum.

It's not nearly as simple as you'd think, there are many factors involved, cost & perceived demand being some of the most important.

You cannot expect them to keep a R100k brake kit in their warehouse because a customer may one day decide to buy one. Also, if they did that then they'd have to keep pads & replacement hardware for them as well. Same goes for pretty much all other other TRD stuff, it's simply not worth keeping in stock.

HI SAV

I understand this, they could just make the ordering from Japan accessible - don't see how this could be an issue

As far as I know everything they sell gets tested locally so I'm assuming that's another limiting factor.

You can get any TRD part thats not discontinued if your parts manager at your local toyota is Jacked up....

TRD parts are over-priced IMO.

Brakes for e.g. there are many, many high quality options from other well known makers (APC, Powerbrake, there are many!) which are the same or better options than the TRD ones (which is just a rebranded Brembo kit).

I got a cool sharkfin antenna for less than the TRD 1, for e.g. and this is just there for looks and a little wire for the aerial. Works perfect, looks better, job done.

You are paying for the R&D. It might be a re-branded Brembo kit, but it is designed specifically on the OEM specifications. The same holds usually for the rest of the parts.

The a aftermarket dudes need to do their own R&D too...

It's not the same. When you have to produce products for a hundred of different car models/companies, you cannot devote too much time. The most common is to find a single car and just check about fitment issues and do some short tests. Even in this forum you can find posts from vendors requesting test cars. Very few vendors (big names) can invest more time in R&D and usually their product prices are very high.

I must respectfully disagree bro, takes brakes for e.g. (Many threads on that in SA and other sections). What power brake produces is really great quality stuff for way less than what the TRD kit offers.

Exhausts too... The TRD catback adds zero power, just looks (which is subjective anyway) and sound, and is double the price of my custom made 1 that is fully stainless steel. I didn't buy a cheap catback either.

I'm not saying there is anything bad about TRD at all... But I really don't see the added quality for the prices they charge.

That is a long shopping list. You'll probably be able to buy another car with what all that is going to cost.
