Interest thread: Blitz Active Clutch for FA20/4U-GSE

Hi everyone,

Blitz used to have the Active Clutch, a clutch/flywheel combo that was extremely streetable and about the same price as a normal clutch upgrade with lightened flywheel. It was last produced close to 10 years ago for the SR20DET engine.

One of the unique features of this kit was the ability to upgrade to a twin plate setup to increase torque capacity.

We have been approached by numerous parties to explore bringing this item back for the FA20/4U-GSE platform.

Is there any interest in this type of clutch kit? Obviously price and performance details will be announced later.

Please let us know if you have any questions you want us to answer about this, thank you.

I'd be interested.

How much torque capacity are we talking? How was the chatter on this as well? My act has the regular flywheel and the chatter is still pretty bad.

Users of Active Clutch from previous platforms have provided feedback that chatter is minimal.

Generally speaking, puck-type clutches have more chatter than full face. But also, using organic clutch material is much more street friendly than semi-metallic.

The main drawback is temperature. Organic clutch can technically hold more torque than metallic, but as you build temperature in it (drifting, hard launches, track use, etc) the torque capacity is reduced.

Right now we are exploring options for it. Estimating 300-350 ft-lb torque rating for a single.

As for streetability of the clutch, part of what made this better than the average clutch/flywheel setup is that it is not limited by OEM pressure plate design. OE replacement type clutches are limited in terms of what it can/cannot do when it comes to clamping force and pedal feel.

May also want to find out weather or not this will need a new stronger clutch fork like so many other aftermarket clutches seen to need.

That's part of what we will attempt to figure out.

Stock replacement type clutches have (engineering) limitations on the size/shape of the pressure plate. To get high torque ratings, you can only do so much.
