Another p0018 thread, Scion TSB?
 

Hey guys, I know there are a bunch of p0018 threads and I feel like I have read them all now (probably missed some though, mostly related to it's siblings the p0016,p0017... ).

My question is pretty specific. It is mentioned a lot that there is a TSB for it (at least for early 2013's). I see the subaru TSB "02-132-12" is there a scion equivalent?

I am taking my car in for service for this and would really like to be able to point them to a TSB. It seems many of these services end up being a lot of experimenting until eventually they replace the timing sprocket and ecu. If there is any scion internal documentation that will help them learn from other's that would be good to reference.

I'd suggest you just take in a copy of the BRZ TSB ...... they ought to know it's the same engine....;)

Unfortunately, since there's no way to directly diagnose the valve failure without disassembling the engine, I think they've decided the cheaper path is to get there by ruling out everything else.

I will print the subaru TSB and bring it in, good suggestion. I guess ultimately I was hoping if I could point them at the scion TSB there may be more information in their system around it and it would be easier for them to get approval for the repairs. Not really sure how a service department works though so maybe a naive thought.

I have < 500 miles left of warranty so as long as I get it completely wrapped up in that time I am good :)

So at first everything went well. Dropped it off they called back said they called toyota and were going to replace the cam gear and ecu.

Called back today though and said they wouldn't cover it because of my oil cooler. They mentioned my intercooler as well that I left on from my supercharger I asked what that had to do with cam gears and they backed down on that one and just said that the cam gear problem could be caused by oil flow issues so the oil cooler could be at fault and they wouldn't cover it, $3,033 if I wanted them to do it anyway. So much for the dealer, now on to independent shops.

They would have to prove it was caused by an oil cooler. They won't because it's bullshit.

So it appears I am out the other side, CEL has been off for a couple days now.

Had a cam gear replaced by a local subaru engine builder (outfront motorsports) which was about $800 and replaced the ecu ($80 from ebay, followed instructions here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102810). So not too bad price wise and just in time for a track day tomorrow :)
