Brake Pedal Resistance (Stoptech Kit)

I've had the smaller ST40 kit on for about 4 months now and something that I notice that I never felt with the stock brakes is temporary pedal resistance.

It's not a constant and it seems to only happen when I get off the brakes and then back on them hard. I get this firm resistance feeling and the pedal won't depress. I typically notice this when braking in a straight line before coming into a turn.

Now when I feel it I let off the brakes and get back on it and the pedal depresses like normal and the pads bite but by then I've already slowed down quite a bit from when I initially started getting on the brakes.

Anyone have any ideas?

Brake knockback? Or the brake boost re-building? (It's vacuum assisted)

This is what I was thinking but I thought maybe if this was the issue I would have been able to find someone posting a similar problem?

I've had the same kit for almost two seasons and have not experienced this. However, I don't find the need to get on the brakes, off and back on in rapid succession. I can't think of a reason to do that... ???

Say you are coming down into a turn and your on the brake heel toeing and you let off the brake as you start to turn in but some D-bag decides he is going to bomb the inside so then you have to get back on the brakes to stop from hitting him. Probably not something you experience in a professional environment but open track days it seems to be the norm especially at the cheaper events. Maybe I'm doing something wrong since I'm a novice myself.

Ouch, yeah, I don't get that scenario with the groups I drive with; none allow dive bombing :confused0068:

In this scenario, it is likely you are activating ABS, and you've likely already turned in so, if you haven't used the 'pedal dance' to fully turn off the nanny's/EBD, then there is a lot going behind the scenes with the brake system that could be causing what you feel as a harder pedal. I know that some ABS systems will give you such an effect when it is trying to prevent rear lockup; Google "brake ice mode" and you'll find that a lot of brake systems have this effect.

To avoid it, try anticipating a braking dive bombs. You can usually tell and then blend in nicely behind them.
