What about that 1.5L Mini FT?
Remember those rumors about the 1.5L mini FT they were thinking about making in addition to the FT86? What happened to it? i liked the idea alot.
|
maybe thats scions announcement...that they are releasing their own sports car along side toyotas. Scion = 2 seater rear drive VERY light, very underpowered car for $16-$18k. Toyota still has the 86 at $22+
I can dream can't I |
Nice.... New age Starlet.... I want that :D
|
it's...[possible but the scion version will have to look different from the toyota, so basically watered down to the max. The Toyota version should be comprable to MK I then, AND...IF the IS is going to be based off of the 86 instead of the GS as it usually or even some LFA mixed in...it has to be something like MK II if not beyond that. Needless to say that means scion and toyota are rocking the boxer and lexus probably would want a new v6. soooo possible? yes. Probable? meh, that's a lot of corporate and business planning right there

If this car was even lighter then the FT, Wouldn't it be the perfect swap victim? Or would the engine weight be the only savings?
|
It depends on the car. If it's the same size as the FT86 with the same construction ect than yes but I imagine it would be smaller than a FT86. 1.5L, RWD, 160hp hmmmm sounds pretty nice. Priced around the same cost as a corolla and the Mini FT would be a nice car for college students ect.

If you find anymore info you can share it on this forum . And underpowered hatchback was just an idea. I believe they were considering engines between 1.3-1.5liters. 100bhp was the original goal with 2000lb curb weight but I imagine that nothing was really confirmed. And from what I remember they had a 200BHP turbocharged prototype at one time. Have you seen the hatchback city car version or the roadster version? I'm trying to find the roadster version now. |

I'd say 160 out of a 1.5 is wishful thinking, but its doable from the manufacturer. Just reflected in the cost. I'd have to be completely honest here....if Toyota came out with this "mini FT-86", sporting a 1.5L w/ Yamaha head, and pushing ~140-150hp(crank obviously), at about $18k...I'd probably take it over FT-86, if only because its weight is more in line with the AE86's. The sucker would probably be 2400lbs tops, if not lighter. Damnit, who am I kidding...that 1.5L would be outta there as soon as the warranty was over and a 20v 4A-GE would take it's place.....damn my enthusiast ways! |

Anyway, The idea behind this car is very light and very cheap. The concept has a 100hp engine thereabouts. It's laughable to expect more than 120ps or so. |
