Is this a good idea?..
Hello,
So, I have a '13 FRS that I owe 7k on. It's in good running condition, near 36k miles. I have decided I really want an edelbrock super charger. traditional school of thought: Pay off the car, save up, buy the super charger, install it, deal with any issues if they happen. my.. idea.. I could go talk to the dealer about their new FRS stock, they are currently trying to dump the scions as they are closing the brand. I may be able to get a nice deal, and then tell them I want them to install the edelbrock as part of my new car purchase. advantages: new car service plan, edelbrock powertrain warranty on new car. I may actually be able to lower my monthly payments disadvantages: I will have 5 more years of payments. numbers are not in my favor. so, risk assessment, If I want a supercharger, is buying a new FRS and trading my current FRS a good idea? |

If your dead set on supercharging a FR-S, I suggest you supercharge the one you have......;) humfrz |
So you want the dealer to install the SC thinking you get to keep the powertrain warranty? Good luck with that.
Even if that was the case I would not trust a dealer to change my oil let alone install forced induction. Keep your car. Find a tuner shop. Get the edlebrock. Enjoy |

Even if you managed to blow up the current car with the supercharger, it would still probably cost less to fix than what you will pay in interest alone on those 5 years of new car payments. Add all the other factors of trading up (loss of value of current car, taxes, increased insurance, etc) and it becomes even less of a good financial decision.
We don't really buy these cars as a good financial decision though, so if you really value having a newer car go for it. I wouldn't do it from the reliability/warranty standpoint. |

Horrendous idea. This thing blows up, you have payments on a new car, no warranty, and 17K in repair charges.
No. Thank. You. |
I'm curious how this turns out. Good luck.
