FRS Trunk Question

Sorry if I am not in the right area of the forum, it wouldnt let me post in the exterior section because I didnt have "enough permission" but I have come across a problem.

I have the 2016 FRS with the rear spoiler and back up camera. I want to eventually get the Rocket bunny V1 Wing. But I found out that the stock spoiler will cause the trunk to have holes in it. So i thought about buying a new oem trunk without the spoiler, but now I have to set up the back up camera.

My question is, what would be the easiest way of going about this? Should I do what I mentioned above and just drill holes in the new trunk i buy an install the Backup camera myself? Or should i try to find someone to do a trunk swap with? Throw me suggestions please.

Thank you and hopefully you guys go easy on me and dont troll.

Hi 86TX .....:)

If I understand you correctly, if you remove your existing trunk spoiler, it will leave holes. It already has the backup camera installed.

You wish to mount a new V1 wing.

Heck, I'd just use the existing trunk lid and plug the holes. Maybe with a plug that you have painted to match the color of your car ....... or maybe just leave the plug black.

Any plastic or rubber plug from a hardware store would work, or maybe an auto parts store has some nifty ones.

Well, they will be noticeable until you put the big wing on ..... then most folks will be looking at that ...... ;)

If your profile pix is showing a dark colored 86... some black plugs would hardly be noticeable once the V1 is installed.

If your wallet can stand the pain, a body shop can fill the holes and repaint (colormatch) the trunk.

Yeah I have the Raven Black 86, it is metallic, so idk how the plugs will match, but for a temporary fix I shall use the plugs until I can save up for the weld and colour match.

You can remove the trunk garnish (where the factory back up cams are mounted) and swap it to the wingless trunk.

it does leave holes sadly!, lots of them, wings like the TRD cover it nicely, but other wings such as RBv1 wont.

You will likely find that the RBv1 wing covers the square holes (though it might not!), so you will have to plug the holes.

There are a few ways around it though:

- Swap boot lids with someone who wants a TRD/etc wing
- Install a TRD wing and just shave a little off of the plastic so the RBv1 wing fits on too, might look a little weird though.
- Fill in and sand flat, then either paint or get just the boot lid wrapped.
- Use plastic plugs to block the holes.

Regardless of which option you take, check each hole carefully, if you see any exposed metal, mask off the area and use the appropriate color spray paint to paint over the exposed metal, or use a touchup pen, just make sure no metal gets left exposed, as it will eventually rust and look a mess.
