Velox Hood Louvers
 

Sooo im guessing with these hood louvers im going to have to leave that insulation piece that comes under the stock hood out. Anyone had any problems once removing it with the hood getting to hot or warping or is it all good leaving the entire thing off?

Just a quick thought, if you take that insulation off from under the hood ...... I reckon that engine will sound like a real bucket of bolts. If you leave it on, why have the louvers.

Just got done talking to velox. Instant response on a Sunday lol that's awesome. Well if I left it on I could cut it but I think it would end up being a mess. I have had a carbon fiber hood before and really didn't make any noise difference and it didn't have the insulation. Was just looking for a cheaper way to be efficient and trying to keep the exterior as stock as humanly possible

What kind of "efficiency" are you looking for .. ??

I sooooooo knew this was coming when I used the word cheap lol. Current hood is oem and the goal is lower heat in the engine bay. I'm getting the headers titanium coated so I am going to see if that helps some before I do any cutting.

hmmmm.......I see where you have a Jackson Racing dual Radiator/oil cooler.

Doesn't that keep the engine running cool enough .... ??

Are these something that you would just take the rain guards off of when you track the car .. ??

Also, you mentioned "trying to keep the exterior as stock as humanly possible". Well, I understand why they put the set of louvers where they did on the hood ......... but, if one didn't know that ......... they might look misplaced or out of place..........:iono:

It's still up in the air right now. I am seeing a good 20 degree f cooler oil temps. It's rlly not that bad one the street but I got a feeling when I hit the mountains in November temps are going to climb pretty strong. A few people that track these cars say the biggest temp control is hood vents even with an oil cooler. Idk I guess we will see if coating the aftermarket headers will make any difference.

My experience driving my FR-S in the mountains out here (where our mountain passes are higher than the peaks on Georgia's mountains), is that the car runs cool enough. Besides in November, the mountains should be cooling down.

Yep, I would suggest to wait till after you have the headers coated before you go punching holes in the hood.

If you get the engine too cool, it will get the "shivers" and not run as well ..... :D

No issue with the hood doing anything with the insulation off. There is a little extra noise, but not much else. I've had no issues with my FR-S, and it is a dark colored one that lives in a sweltering subtropical climate during the summer months.

My insulation is give. No problems yet

i thought that blanket inside the hood was for fire suppression.

How would that work? Does it choke out the fire when it starts burning?

yeah I thought the plastic tabs melt and the blanket falls. clearly doesnt work all the time, cause ive seen burners on the side of highways before blasting all that funky black smoke. but i suppose it is better than nothing.

EDIT, but it could very well be so the paint on hood doesnt get bubbled and metal deformed.
