Autocross "Clubs"

First, I'm from Eugene Oregon, looking to at least watch, if not give autocross a whirl.

Do I need to be involved in a club to do it? I noticed there were a few different clubs. Can you just sign up for one and go to any events? (Worth a shot).

If not, what are the most successful, attended, or professional clubs around here?

http://where2race.com/ This site will help get you started. Go to Portland and watch OR-SCCA run at Portland International sometime though.

You don't need to be a member to participate with any of the clubs I've run with (ORPCA, SCCA, NWAA). If you don't want to drive all the way to Portland, Willamette Motor Club runs Autocross events in Salem. It's easy to get involved and great fun.

I have zero "car" friends (or friends in general if I think of it), so admittedly finding groups of 86's doing autocross interested me in more than one way. I'll just be an autox fool and run as many as possible! :)

Like 600 of your posts ago I told you about Emerald Empire Sports Car Club, based in Eugene. There are a handful of twins that run every event.

This weekend was Willamette Pass. Their next events are Sept. 24 and 25 in Creswell.

I remember them and planned to go to Willamette Pass, but my car just got completed yesterday afternoon...

Hey, besides, you didn't pm me! :)

Let me know if you're wanting to run somewhere around Portland, I'd join ya. Autocross is so much fun.

I definitely want to go pretty much as soon as I can. After watching videos though, I do NOT have any idea how drivers remember which way they're supposed to go. 100% chance I get lost. Possibly ending up in Wichita.

@FNCrazy I'm going to be doing the Oregon SCCA Autocross at PIR on Saturday Oct. 1st. That's the next one I'm able to do and will probably be running during the morning session.

That's about in the time line I'm realistically looking at to get finances back and a helmet. Do I have to be a SCCA member?

Nope, you have to pay $15 for a weekend "membership" plus the $40 ($35 for preregistration) for the day. They'll have helmets to borrow too.

Also, don't worry about the course. You'll be able to walk it multiple times beforehand, it helps a ton before you do your runs. Trust me, I had never done it before and after walking the course and driving it pretty slowly the first time, I didn't miss a cone or anything.

That sounds great! If I can borrow a helmet I might even try to get to an earlier one also.
