Brand New Custom Taillight Mods for FR-S/BRZ/GT86
A friend of mine is an electrical engineer, and he went to town on the FR-S, soft launch on taillights first, see what people think.
They are almost infinitely customizable both mechanically and aesthetically, including both lit and unlit logos, unlimited colors, pinstriping or none, etc. Here are a couple shots of different ones. The first video shows a fairly standard (for these custom lights) set up, but you can see it mounted and working on a car. These COB LED's are extremely bright!! Due to electronic mumbo jumbo I don't understand, when it's not on a car, the turn signal stays lit instead of flashing. That's the 2nd posted video that is modified differently. Earlier video show blinking. When this is installed, it will of course blink like any normal turn signal would. So, let me know what you think and if it's something people might be interested in. Came from an original OEM taillight and modified per customer's specific requests. Gloss blackout housing, gloss blackout side reflector, GT-R mod with COB LED's (latest type of LED), Diode Dynamics still sell only SMB's as their top of the line, and even those are great. Amber COB is used for the turn signal. Upgrade reverse light mod. Custom body color pinstriping per customer request. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ecf4ab4dbb.jpg Custom side logo (illuminated or not) http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...2146e56248.jpg Few extra tidbits: All taillights use OEM takeoffs, which we only have a couple available, so what I did was purchase a used set of takeoffs, will send it in to be modified, and then once complete, install. Once it's been tested, I'll then sell my new takeoffs to recoup the initial purchase of the takeoffs? Clear as mud? Sorry! If he had to buy them to modify, he'd need to buy at almost new pricing, which is ridiculous and would put this incredible product outside an acceptable price point. Pretty much, if you can dream it, he can do it. So if you have something custom in mind, pm me. He's already got prototypes of headlights and 3rd brake light, but you don't get rich selling these, so a soft roll out is in order. Full Disclosure: I am NOT compensated in any way. I found his work, and there have been things about all taillights I hate, and I fell in love with the GT-R mod. I bought an OEM takeoff set, and he will make me a set of custom ones when he's not busy (of course). And I get to help with designs and seeing prototype stuff first. Yeah, perks huh? :) It's really nice though to see alternative designs for taillights with exceptional quality. Wait until you see the 3rd brake light and headlight mods coming once these start shipping well! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk |
Because it's not on the car, electrical gremlins I don't understand despite repeated explanation won't allow the COB LED's to flash in this video. As above, they do on the car.
Okay, I lost a video or two around here somewhere. Has anyone seen it laying around? Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk |

I love it. Not a big fan of the red strip though

Essentially a GTR taillight copy.
It looks fine tbh, except the turn signals. Cant stand those small little circles |

All up to you. Turn signals can be in a different location, use the wider diameter COB LED, whatever you want. If you have an idea in mind, or just want to yell at me for the small circle turn signals, PM me! :) |
Its possible make the little red balls more separetdly,
Like R35? |
These have some real potential. The devil's in the details. Does your friend have experience designing LED drivers to maximize lifespan? If they're super bright, perhaps they could be driven at, say 70% rated current. That would have a HUGE impact on their service life.

Lose the red strips along the back and the 86 logo on the side.
Other than that, they're ok. |

All I do know, is that he's an electrical engineer with many years of working with Led's. When I get your answer, I'll paste it to the thread but also pm it to you. Thank you! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk |

They look pretty good.
The only thing I don't like about it is how visible COB LEDs are, which you can't really do much about besides tinting the plastic (which will reduce the brightness). Just makes it overall look much too "busy" for me. |
