Tomei EL header: my $0.02
 

Hey guys, I've been lurking around and looking at exhaust videos, etc. etc. for a while.

I haven't seen a lot on the Tomei EL header and associated mods.
So anyways, I decided to pick one up, because I got a pretty good deal on it, and it seemed to be a pretty quality piece for what it is. I would have to say that for the money, its tough to beat Tomei EL headers plus an E85 flash in terms of power to price.

The fitment was really good, I didn't have to fiddle with the expansion bolts or anything like that. easy install, but I'm slow so it took all afternoon.

Without the cat it does give a bit of raspyness sound when you really tip into the throttle underneath 4K but its tolerable, IMO.

I meant to make this post earlier, but I'm lazy, so I've also put on a Tanabe Medalion Concept G exhaust onto the car with the header. Its a lot louder than I was hoping/expecting, but not so loud that I can't live with it. I would have to say that it quiets down a bit to a pleasant level after 4k, but tipping into the throttle before that ends up being maybe 10-15% for my ears. But its still quieter than a lot of other Subaru cars around town, comparatively. It also amplifies the raspyness. I think with a high flow catted header, this would be perfect.

I've got 6 total, 3 comparing from stock>headers>and headers w/ exhaust inside the cabin, and 3 outside of the cabin.

I used a Canon 70D with homemade 3D audio mics, for those wondering. It also means that if you wear headphones, it should be pretty accurate to what it really sounds like from the camera viewpoint. Also, take the loudest point in the video, and multiply it by 1.5 and that's pretty close to how loud it is in person.

The concept G sounds amazing with a UEL ;)

Yea, I've heard it on another member's car, but UEL just isn't my cup of tea on this car.

A shame, since they do such a better job than EL headers, unless you have deep pockets.
