V-Rod - A Few Pics Of The Love Of My Life

2 Attachment(s)
I first was smitten by the V-Rod on the Discovery channel documentary "Making of the V-Rod" or something like that (on VHS lol). From there, I was sold. They came out in 2002, but my first one was a 2003 Harley anniversary edition in anodized aluminum.

I loved that bike, but it had a 3.5ga(?) fuel tank under the seat, narrow tires, a habit of keys falling out at inopportune times (While you were riding it), and a few other "quirks."

I had yet to fall in love with the gloss black/matte black style yet.

Believe it or not, despite dire warnings from my original motorcycle safety instructors and intermediate class instructors, I had already bought it and was in love with it.

They seemed to think it was a very bad choice as a first road bike, being such a powerful, big, long bike that the V-Rod was. I even had an instructor talk to me for an hour after certificates were handed out, trying to convince me to save that for when I had more experience.

It was excellent advice, and although I didn't take it per se, they made me realize just how dangerous of a machine it was, how easy it would be to get into trouble, so at the very beginning I drove it much more conservatively than I would have a smaller bike. So, in a way it kind of worked.

Second one, I learned to tear the thing almost to the ground with just the help of good tools (that the forum recommended), and people on the forum 24/7 to help me when I couldn't figure out if it was leftie loosie or what :)

Most of my threads when I was customizing it at first, typically consisted of a picture like this, and "Now WHAT am I supposed to do here???"

It's becoming more clear that these will NOT be in chronological order. But, with that color scheme, after I destroyed my first Shoei (snowmobile accident, Bend winter snow/woods rescue, ambulance, etc.), I bought a new one in a horrible, horrible color that they had decided to put on closeout to put out of it's misery. GREAT helmet, top of the line, can't remember what it was called. Anyway, had a buddy that did custom paint work and we decided to paint the helmet to match, he's the painter, but I think he just sanded it down, smoothed it, and repainted. (not a great job, it was one of those, few beers, not enough time, types of things). It looked good from 5-10 feet probably, and I got a ton of compliments on it.

Off topic on my own thread...But...automotive go kart fun!!!

The Lotus reminds me in almost every way of the FR-S, except better in almost every way. Before you get the pitchforks, even though on paper the Lotus is better in almost every way, if I could pick one and not have it cost a dime, I'd still pick the FR-S.

SOON MORE V-ROD PICS!

Um, that's a good question, one that I've never really contemplated before. I think I would have to disagree, although they are close. My motorcycle was made for doing what it does, fast, calmly, and stabily(?, that's not a word). I spared no expense on the internals, the parts that you can't see, to keep it in excellent order, handle the higher wind resistance, difference in turning due to the tires, etc.. Rear shocks, for instance, I spent 3 to 4 times as much on them to get them custom made, although you couldn't tell by looking at them. There are some out of the box that look way better, but they suck compared to custom built ones. Yes though, I do love to make them look how I like them...So, yes and no I suppose. I could certainly see why you'd think that.

But I am definitely not an all show and no go person. It better not look too good that it can't back it up.
