Recall on 04/2012-03/2015 86's for faulty power steering mechanism

http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/1...04-gql05t.html

As per the article:
Quote:

Models built between April 2012 and March 2015 - which nearly encompasses its entire life span - are at risk of losing power steering due to a faulty wire harness.

The fix requires the fitting of a new power steering electronic control unit and wire harness.

Toyota expects parts to arrive at the end of September in which time the brand will notify affected customers by mail and advise them to book a time to take it to their local dealer.

The fix will be carried out at no cost and will take about one hour.

The link directly from Toyota suggests its just right-hand drive vehicles with driver's knee airbags:

The recall impacts right-hand drive vehicles that are equipped with driver’s knee airbags.
The articles a good read as it goes into a bit of detail:

Toyota 86 Electric Power Steering (EPS) Assistance Q & A

Q1: What is the condition?
A1: The subject vehicles are equipped with electric power steering (EPS).
During normal driving operation, the EPS rotation angle sensor terminals may wear over time. This wear of the connector terminal plating accumulates in debris which may oxidise and become non-conductive.
Under this condition if the driver’s knee contacts the knee airbag lower cover, the EPS wire harness routed behind the cover also moves significantly which allows the terminal to contact the debris resulting in electrical contact failure.
In this condition, the EPS ECU turns on the warning light and the steering assist is interrupted whilst manual steering is maintained.
The loss of power steering assist will increase the steering effort at low speeds which may increase the risk of an accident.
Q2: What is the function of the Electronic Power Steering?
A2: The electric power steering system generates torque to assist steering effort through operation of the motor and reduction gear installed on the steering column shaft.
The power steering electronic control unit (ECU) determines direction and the amount of assistance required in accordance with vehicle speed and signals from sensors built into the steering column assembly.

Registered my car and got the go-ahead notice in the mail. Just wondering if anyone has had their car done yet?

Im still waiting to be notified about it like they said they would, otherwise I'll bring it up during my service in Oct. Also be a good time to bring up the power steering knocking sound over bumps too (not that that particular issue has a fix yet)

Got the letter from Toyota last Friday, reckon I might wait a month before I call the dealer ;)

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but once the TSB is complete is there a record anywhere on the car? A sticker on the door pillar etc?

Just bought a MY15 model that is on the list and I want to know if it has been done.

Michael.

So I picked up my car yeasterday and it looks like it hasn't had the recall done. I'll call the number on the site. Thanks for the help!

Minor update: I contacted the hotline, they gave me a reference number to call my local dealer with who has the record of which cars have been done. Strange that the recall hotline has no record of compliance by VIN? Anyway, contacted local Toyota Service who advises that although my VIN is within the applicable VIN range, it does not apply to my specific car. I guess I'll just have to take her word for it then!

On a side note, MAN are these things fun! Love my new car...
