Racer X Fabrication: Catch can revisited

(Finished catch cans on page 3)

A little over a year and a half ago we originally released our dual catch can for the platform. When it came time to run another batch we decided it needed a redesign; we had a lot of enthusiasts requesting a sight glass and we wanted to integrate that into the next design. Unfortunately the current design was not tall enough to incorporate this design feature.

One of the most difficult aspects of competing with so many options is price, so we decided that the best way forward was to eliminate the longest process of the machining. We moved the main portion of the catch can body to an extrusion which allowed us to reduce cost. We kicked off the order in late May and by the end of June we had 1000 lbs of our custom extruded profile.

Our new design is simple and straight forward, it contains an internal baffle to divert airflow down and start separating air from oil mist. It then routes around the baffle and toward the exit, which contains a stainless steel 40 micron sintered filter that is specifically designed to filter oil from air. The sight glass allows for a quick level check and oil can be conveniently drained using the stainless steel ball valve below the catch can.

We moved the mounting location from the front of the vehicle to the battery area, and use 2 mounting points by the cabin wall. We will also offer a dual catch can setup that will be a great fit for forced induction, the second canister will be placed directly along side the current mounting location.

Here are a few pictures of our progress, we are expecting to have the first run completed around the end of August.

Looking forward to any questions or comments.

Will this be just as suitable for RHD too?

I'm interested to see pricepoint, more install pics, and pics of the drain.

What products do you think are comparable to yours, and how do they stack up?

Currently it is not compatible with RHD, however we are more than willing to work with anyone interested in developing the mounting for it.

Yes!! The dual catch can kit is simply adding a second catch can right next to the single can unit. I will add more pics in a few days after we have made more progress.

Price point I think is pretty good, you can see it here: http://racerxfabrication.com/frs-brz...stem/catch-can

There are many great products on the market, many of which can be found in this sub-forum with a simple search for catch can.

The finished catch can will be anodized black or gray, and will have our logo laser etched on both sides.

Very nice looking kit. Hard to tell from the pictures how it mounts or if it comes with any mounting hardware. Can you explain the plans there?

Beautiful

Do you still offer custom anodizing? I want it in blue.

Well I need one for my Sprintex car and there is room on the battery side to fit one ;) Based on the pics it looks like the hoses should be universal. PM me if you like...

wow $149 for a preorder is a great price. I would jump on this instantly if I didn't have a radium already.

Thanks!

Yes, the kit includes everything needed for installation. Hoses, fittings, catch can mount and hardware.

The can mounts using 2 locations on the cabin wall, pretty straight forward. We will have instructions completed once the catch cans are completed.

Sorry, the custom anodizing became quite a headache after a while so we will be sticking with standard colors. In this case black and gray.
