AD08 or RE71R
 

I have had amazing performance out of the AD08. My question is has anyone ran the Bridgestone POTENZA RE-71R? Any opinions?? Ordering one or the other in the morning.

i have not personally ran them, but everything I've read from others show that the RE71 is a damn grippy tire, but the treadwear isn't quite consistent with what would be expected from a 200TW tire. Sounds like they wear down a bit on the fast side.

Thank you. The only difference I see is the wet grip isnt as good from them as the AD08. But wet grip/noise/and a speedy wear is fine as long as they grip hard as possible lol.

my first set of tires on my BRZ for the track were RE71r...very impressive tire...yes...they wear quickly but if you want a solid "200tw" tire the RE71r seems to continue to be the king.....my first set lasted basically 11 track days before they were toast (very little street miles during that time)

I then switched to NT01s....I am not sure if it is the tire or the confidence but the NT01s were between 1-3 seconds a lap quicker than the RE71r depending on the track I was at....but with a cost of life span...realistically I would get 6-7 full days out of NT01s before they were about done....i honestly think they are a quicker tire for me but they do not last as long....

i have just now mounted up another new set of RE71r tires to run starting this weekend as i wanted to have a more all in 1 tire that i could drive to the track, run and drive back if I choose...after running NT01s for the last 12 track days I have done I am curious to see how the RE71r will feel

I run RE71R's on my Forester XT and they are genuinely incredible.

Wear is, indeed, fast. If you can live with having a backup set of wheels and tires to bring with you, or don't rack up a ton of miles, they are a wonderful choice.

When you say you had 6-7 days in the nittos, how many hours per day did you have on track? And were they done in by heat cycling or wearing down?

a typical track day for me is 4-5 20-25 minute sessions
done by wearing out...down to cords...they never got slower as they wore

the right rear on my car seems to get very little wear on the tracks i go to...i can get 40-45 heat cycles on that corner ....the other 3 corners i can get about 30 heat cycles before they are worn down

They are a great tire. However, most spec 86 race series do NOT allow them at all (as noted) because their grip is not exactly inline with a 200 tread wear tire - hence the earned name "cheater tires."

If your car is bone stock, this tire will be slower around a track than a slightly less sticky tire as you will have a hard time slipping where you need to in order to carry maximum speed.

So, to be clear, I am not advocating for you to supercharge tomorrow incase your significant other reads this statement... but if you were supercharged or something like that, you would have one hell of a time.

Counterpoint to this is that I had a blast in a friends seriously tuned up naturally aspirated BRZ running NT01's...



I would have bought the RE71r's myself but I want to play in the stock class for Spec86 series!

Going full exhaust and tune next month so hoping to make the extra power I'm going to need. I know the ad08 on the Miata if u dropped the clutch it would stall. Rlly hard to get any slip at all. So I understand what you are saying. I was going to wait till next month to get them anyways but I picked up a nail this week on the sidewall and couldn't be patched

my car is bone stock power wise and I have never had any complaints on either the RE71r or NT01 on the car...the car works just fine on them.
