HELP! Jackson SC vs. Harrop SC

Alright.... I have a situation here. I've been lusting after the harrop kit, but I have the chance to pick up a used Jackson Racing c30 kit.

Here are the pros and cons as I see them:

Harrop Pros/Cons
1. Pro, Looks
2. Pro, Eaton TVS compressor (more low end torque)
3. Con, Easy installation (but Jackson is easier!)
4. Con, cost... import/shipping plus I would rather this be installed by a proper mechanic so more $$$.

Jackson c30 Pros/Cons
1. Con, Looks... this thing is comparatively ugly
2. Con, Rotrex compressor. Its good, but it does not have the top-end upgradeability like the Jackson c38, also, more high-end torque than the Harrop, but less low end (I don't track my car so this matters)
3. Pro, Easier installation than the Harrop (can totally DIY it without doubts)
4. Pro, cost... at least 2k cheaper than the Harrop, plus this kit has the Jackson oil cooler included!

Conclusion: both are good kits, both are validated.

Help?! I Can't decide.

I went for the Harrop because the torque curve and peak HP are incredible for an otherwise stock motor:

I've not seen a dyno for the Rotrex supercharger on an otherwise stock 86, but I really doubt it would have that same linear power delivery and complete deletion of the torque dip.

Upgrade potential is there too, because it's the big blower and can use a smaller pulley if needed.
Harrop is worth the extra money in my opinion.

harrop! Why? Because I said so :)

Cosworth, duh!

But out of those two, for sure the Harrop. Though the JR is a good kit.

The torque curves for both are similar, with the Jackson kit delivering slightly more up top and the Harrop slightly more down low. Jackson kit also has a smaller pulley.

Right, the Harrop is lovely. It looks lovely, it feels lovely, TVS1320, nuff said, but I'm going to be in it for near 6k with no oil cooler at the end of the day, whereas with the Jackson I can get away with for well under 4k, do the install myself and have an oil cooler included. Thats why I'm torn. Cost, instillation and oil cooler are the big factors.

Then you must be a dealer... Price on Jackson is $4K plus another $600 for a cooler. Maybe you could get away with around $300 if you DIY a cooler, but no way you're doing all for WELL under $4K unless you go used.

haha no I am not a dealer and yes, this kit is used which is why it is significantly cheaper.

When I priced out the Harrop it wasn't that expensive and shipping wasn't that much. There are a couple people in the US like Moto-East and CSG who I think can supply kits now as well. Install is going to be harder than the Jackson, but it's not considerably harder.

I'd go the Harrop route all day long, I think you'll be happier in the end with it.

Then, I'd go with what your budget allows. I'm sure both are a blast, and reliable kits! :burnrubber:

Right? My budget leans way more toward the Jackson, especially because it includes the oil cooler and the DIY factor. Both are reliable, the Jackson kit especially with many trouble-free miles documented, but the Harrop screams, "TAKE MY MONEY."

Moto-east lists the Harrop at around 5200 with their tune plus 200 shipping and Harrop themselves have said around 4700 (give or take with changing exchange rates) and shipping at 250-300, so yes it isn't all that bad cost-wise and yes the install I could do by myself, but I would prefer a shop do it. This all puts me at 6k without oil cooler.

I know I'd be happier with the Harrop, but would I be 3.5k in cost difference happier with the Jackson?

Tbh you could probably get away with no oil cooler for a while till you get an oil cooler. Especially since you don't track it.

We both know what I'd suggest. Lol but if you really want something now and don't want to wait then the JR seems to fit the bill.
