Emissions question.

So hypothetically if you were running a catless header but you still had your secondary cat and you had it tuned to remove the CEL would you still be able to pass emissions testing here in Arizona. Just curious

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it will pass.

djwishbone 07-28-2016 02:29 AM

I was just wondering that myself.

For California: The o2 needs to be on as they test if it is working. Not sure if tune turns it off or just removes the cel from it.

Depends on the tune. People have run through emissions in other states on the OFT off the shelf tunes and passed. Those tunes just disable the DTC from being thrown, but still allow the system to report as ready.

Other tunes, I don't know, but are likely similar.

You should be able to check with a scanner tool to determine if the system reports as ready or not. There is a thread floating around somewhere with specifics.

Yeah no problem, my fully catless 207 swapped bugeye doesn't even get a second look. It is only OBD2 check, no CEL you're good.

If it is anything like my last car, no cel and you will pass! Arizona was just like Illinois :)

renfield90 08-20-2016 06:02 PM

Strictly speaking it is more complicated than just "no CEL," to pass you need "no CEL and the system reports as ready."

A system that has recently been reset, for example, won't have enough drive cycles and will report as "not ready." Several CEL codes (like P0420) will not show when the system reports as "not ready" so the MVD considers it a fail since it might hide a CEL.

You can use Torque Pro to determine if the system reports as ready: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPMwr2730JA"]Torque OBD2 - Emission Monitors - YouTube[/ame]

System reports ready with OFT stage 2 catless tune

Any updates in this arena? I was curious if anything has changed in the last year regarding this situation.

Token11b 06-28-2017 11:52 PM

Well if you'd like an update on my end, I don't know yet haven't had to emission my car yet. Probably won't happen til next year.
