Both goals are possible. It's pretty straightforward to hit 400 whp in these cars; you just throw a turbo and a lot of money at it and keep your fingers crossed that your engine block isn't the one that lets go on the dyno. I wouldn't put that much work into an engine just because I wanted a Camaro owner to respect me though.

Or you could take a step back, take a deep breath, and recognize that it doesn't matter even one bit if some random other car owner you've never met and will never meet has respect for you, because they don't. And they won't. And that's just life.

SO WHY THE 2017 CAMARO SS???

The Camaro SS or Mustang GT, either would make a feasible goal. But I'm not going to open that can of worms of which is better than the other. So the only reason I want to stay competitive with these cars is because I'm tired of seeing these cars pull or drive next to me reving their engines and accelerating and decelerating. Crap, the other day I even had a Sonata turbo rev his engine at me at a red light. I just want enough power to get the respect of these vehicles who seem to bully my car on the road.

But I'm not drag racing these cars. I'm not flying through a track. I just want to pull before them on a rolling start and get them frustrated for how difficult it is to catch up to me. I know it may sound silly but it's just difficult to put in words what I want to achieve.

I get it. Somebody walks up to you with their cock hanging out and you want to wave your cock back. They make weights you hang from your wang to stretch it out. Combine that with some nice bronze toner and you are good to go!

My personal disapproval of your motives aside, you're looking at a big turbo kit. But guess what happens next, built mustangs and camaros know about you so you gotta build to beat them. It's much cheaper and better for your mental health to just be able to ignore them.

Whatever you choose to do, I hope it makes you happy regardless of what others think or say.

Save yourself a bunch of time and money and just trade your car in for something with the power you want.

It is by far the easiest path to obtain what you want.

It's not difficult to put into words, there's a scientific definition for it.

seems like a waste of money for this particular d!ck measuring reason...ignore them or even better start trolling them

pretend like you will race by revving your engine then let them peel off and you just cruise along and get into their lane right after they take off

or pull up to the right of them and rev your engine asking them to race and when the light turns green you turn right instead while they are screeching tires

These cars are one of the most affordable sports cars on the market today. A lot my friends asked me why I went with the slower FRS vs 3.8 Genesis Coupe I was originally going to buy. I let them know that you can make any car fast however steering and the handling of car is hard to replicate. I couldn't believe the first impression the car made. Sure the numbers look weak on paper however it makes up with the shifting of lanes and cornering of the roads. I know I got the right car. She's not my dream car however she is a great car to learn and play with.

:bonk::bonk::bonk: Just ignore the idiots that try to get your attention. They're stupid and dangerous to the public. Do you want to be stupid and dangerous? You won't be getting anyone's respect, you will just fuel them to take it further.

This is typical playground behaviour. I can respect someone wanting to put money into their car because it is their hobby. It's what they do. Don't take this the wrong way, but In my opinion, your reasoning is just not there. Don't be the village idiot.

The reality is if OP actually goes out and tries to measure up to others at an autocross or HPDE, nobody is going to make it fair for him. He'll be on track with other 'first timers' that have more prior experience and blow his doors off in a stock NA Miata, no matter what he does to his FRS. And odds are it will only happen more frequently as he moves out of novice groups into the big boy pool unless he puts some serious work in.

In what context? In terms of benchracing idealized test scenarios?

Who gives a shit?

I started going in depth, but then I decided I didn't care enough to finish it. The tl;dr is if you go back and look at the autocross results the STX FRS/BRZ's are about 0.2s slower than the F Street Camaro's and Mustangs, ballpark it's about $7k-$12k to build a competitive STX car but 90% of the performance is header, tune, wheels and tires, coilovers and alignment which can be done for about $6k. Add FI to that recipe and boom, your 86 is probably faster than a new Pony car at an autocross (or tight road course, modern autocrosses are big and sweeping to interest modern pony cars, corvettes, porsche's etc.) after about $10k invested into it.

To my knowledge the '16 Camaro SS has only been on Streets of Willow and landed a 1:22, current lap record in 86 cup in 'unlimited class' is 1:25

https://www.86cup.us/records/

I'd suspect similar minimum price of entry for that, somewhere between $10k-$15k to be 3s slower than a new Camaro. By looking up Laguna Seca stuff I think that will also be roughly in the same ballpark, ~3s slower than an SS. To 'beat' one on track, I think you're right, tens of thousands of dollars plus the skill and talent to put out a lap on par with professional racing drivers.

oh, then you did a very poor job of it.

You basically typed a novel to agree with me. :w00t:

Thats cool if TCoat is more eloquent than I am, not too worried about that one. :respekt:

Truth comes out lol
Dude you bought the wrong car! No one driving a camaro thinks about weight when they have nearly 500hp and that much torque. Trust me I had a GT and it was a beast compared to my FRS. The FRS is fun in other ways.

You bought the wrong car for red light racing.

DONT REDLIGHT RACE

Something I wasn't expecting when I bought this car was all the attention I was getting and all the D'bags that wanted to race me. It was bugging me to no end for a while.

I learned to ignore them and now just giggle when they rev beside me. They're idiots...Let it go. You have nothing to prove and will only get yourself in trouble.

I didn't buy this car to f'ing race on the streets. I bought it to have fun and refuse to let someone take that away from me.

Dude! That is the very definition of racing!!!!
You will not gain their "respect" by being faster. If they are reving on you then odds are they will not respect you if you beat them by a mile. All you will succeed in doing is getting them to go faster and then you go faster then they go faster until eventually somebody winds up in jail or the morgue. When they rev on you just smile and wave and drive a away like a civilized person should when on a public road.
