How can I get my headlights perform like BMW or Lexus?
I don't like how they're yellow and not really sharp on my FRS. Is there just a certain bulb I need to insert or would I need to get a certain something from the theretrofitsource.com?
I want to get that white, clear, sharp BMW headlight look and performance or how Lexus has it. Also the DRLs being yellow is no good as well. Anyway to fix that as well? |
You need to get an HID Kit. I suggest something from Diode Dynamics! Look at temperatures too. I.e.:
4300k is warm white (hint of yellow) 5000k is pure white 6000k is cool white (a tiny hint of blue) Then you can go as far as putting a Halo in the housing or whatever you would like! |
The easiest way is to get yourself a pair of Monogram/RS/10-Series headlights with the factory HIDs. Expensive, but totally worth it.

TheRetrofitSource Retro-Quik for Scion FRS
Use this with a 5K Bulb. You will need to bake open your headlight, or have someone install them for you if you are not comfortable enough doing it. Totally worth it though. |

It will give you a luxury white bulb look with a slight hint of exotic blue https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....TL._SY355_.jpg http://www.philipsxenon.com/images/philipsDV_33.jpg |

Anything else I would need to purchase with it? They give so many options. |
Alternatively, the Morimoto 2Stroke kit LED has been working exceptionally for me. Same brilliant white output, not quite as powerful as HIDs but a significant improvement over stock.
To top it all off, no need to retrofit or modify the stock headlights. Haven't had anyone get mad at me for blinding them but my visibility has drastically improved. http://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8...82970692_o.jpg |

A full HID retrofit would be needed for an OEM like cutoff, most likely a D2S retrofit. |

Please dont be one of those assholes on the road who likes to blind everyone because their shitty headlights dont have the proper cutoff. |

I am constantly blinded by guys in pickup trucks with their fuckin neon-glowing pearlescent white from the heavens lights in my rearview. I don't want to be one of those guys but definitely any improvement to the yellow bulb is nice.

I've been really meticulous about checking my pattern on other cars in front of me. It rarely goes above the bumper of a car 20 feet away and I've never seen it glint off of the side mirrors or rear view mirror. Haven't had any oncoming cars flash their high beams at me either. |

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...1f&oe=581CD604 I tried to take a photo of the cutoff, but again I'm about 4-5 feet from the wall so make of it what you will. I held my phone at about side mirror height for reference. https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...03704166_o.jpg |

Check out this post: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...17&postcount=3 Or if you don't feel like it, here are the images a user posted comparing his stock halogen headlights to a different LED kit (which I assumed he DID bend his squirrel finder for the headlight it was installed in) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8224/8...03475fc8_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8237/8...1af604ed_c.jpg If anything, it actually looks like the 2Strokes produce less glare with the squirrel finders than the stock halogens do :bellyroll: But to be fair, not all photos are shot with the same settings or ambient light so they can never be 100% reliable. Here's another post that depicts what poor squirrel finder glare would look like: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7967 http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y60...607_022200.jpg This user has gone for HIDs in stock projectors. As you can see, they're give or take at about the same distance from the wall as my shot was, but their squirrel finder projection is far wider and brighter. If I start getting drivers flashing their high beams at me, I'll definitely reconsider these bulbs or at the very least bend the squirrel finders down. But the whole idea of these 2Strokes were that they were a complete plug-n-play replacement for the stock halogens and were designed from the ground up with that in mind, not just cheap chinese LEDs that were then attached to an H11 mount. Again, photos can be misrepresentative of what's actually happening, but I haven't seen anyone react to my headlights adversely and in Temecula, people are quick to jump down your throat about damn near everything. |
