Ugh - seems like the problem is getting worse. Hearing a very loud rattle from the driver side door hinge area even at load speeds (especially while driving over bumpy roads).
Probably going to call the dealer in the coming weeks to get this checked out. Not fun................... disappointed with the quality. |
I had a vibration/rattle up front that I was able to isolate to the headliner. It's directly above the driver's head. No way to really fix it without pulling it all down, so I'm gonna deal with it.
My other vibration is starting to drive me crazy. It's somewhere near the trunk and is completely random. Sounds like someone is dropping a marble on the rear trunk lid. It's getting worse and super annoying! |

I've been thinking that it's maybe the license plate hitting? Hard to tell...but I may pull it or put some little foam pieces between just to make sure.
|
I believe mine is not the license plate. If it is, then the noise would be more like a rattling noise rather than one single tick/tap/pop noise. It sounds like making a hole on a clear plastic take out food container with a needle. One time tick/tap/pop noise every 2-3 minutes. It happens even when the road is smooth.

No...it's not a rock being thrown up kind of sound. Sometimes it even sounds like the body creaking?? It's weird.
|
Mine's not the rock either as it happens even at low speed like 5 mph in a parking lot.

For the record:
Noise I'm hearing = Sounds like a small stone is dropping on top of the trunk. 1) I tried stuffing a towel in between the glass and the 3rd brake light so that it's like someone pressing down the 3rd brake light, but the noise didn't go away. 2) I tried removing the license plate frame just to make sure it's not that, and the noise didn't go away either. 3) I tried taping the emergency trunk open lever, but the noise didn't go away. The noise become higher pitched when I put the rear seats down, so I'm pretty sure it's coming from either the bottom of the rear dash or somewhere in the trunk. |
To troubleshoot a little more hands on, you may want to purchase some magnets and start placing them in suspect areas.. The added weight may dampen some of the sounds without the need to dynamat everything.. In addition removing all panels will obsiously give you a better blank canvas to start..

In another thread I mentioned that there's a loose piece of plastic in the trunk that could be making the sound, but couldn't confirm.
Has anyone looked into this? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=19 |

And thanks Norkoastal. That's a great idea. |
I have a gym bag that I put in my trunk that the fabric handle would hit the trunk and cause a metalic type noise. Took it out and put it in front seat and it stopped.
