Open Flash Turbo Tuning Level 9000

What the f***...

(my first words when looking at the SBD base tune for oft for the first time.)

Let this thread be for the top level DIY'ers...

This thread has been created for three reasons

1) To instill knowledge onto those who dare dip into the dangerous world of Forced Induction Tuning.

2) To challenge the minds of the experienced and wise.

3) And for the car gods... may there be more boost. Boost = Hot B******

Let's make this thread epic. We as a community must come together and dissect the changes made to each map in the SBD base tune.

We will answer two simple questions

1) Why the change was made

and

2) How it effects the motor

Lets make a name for ourselves. It may take years but boost and b****** aren't going anywhere.

Except with us.

The first table changed is Manifold Pressure Sensor Scaling... It seems that the multiplier is decreased considerably from an NA tune and the offset is changed to .001. Any reason as to why?

the tune is likely for a different MAP sensor likely an Omni 2.5, 3 or 4 bar rather than stock MAP sensor

Omni 2.5 Bar MAP

The OFT300 (Vortex supercharger) map uses the 2.5 BAR Omni and has CEL-P0068 disabled in the map
ok for 2.5 Bar OMNI MAP sensor ECUTEK scaling in BAR

Manifold Pressure Sensor multiplier in bar per volt. = 0.500
Manifold pressure sensor offset. Value is measured in bar. = 0.100
MAP Sensor voltage max = 5.0v
MAP sensor Voltage min = 0.0v

Omni 3 Bar MAP Sensor (Metric in Bar)
0.617 - MULTIPLIER
0.03 - OFFSET
scaling limits 0 - 4.75v

Omni 4 Bar MAP Sensor
Manifold Pressure Sensor Scaling - (imperial PSI)
Multiplier - 12.087
Offset - 0.168
Metric/Bar

bar/volt .833
offset (bar) .012

Manifold Pressure Sensor Limits - (CEL still comes on )
High Input CEL Above - 5.00v
Low Input CEL Below - 0.00v
Disable CEL P0103 and P0068

I don't see anything wrong with it or any tables you wouldn't normally change. You guys are using wrong definitions if you can see stuff you don't understand.

steve99 07-20-2016 12:39 AM

@Nah you might want to start with bad noodles tuning guide , its for wrx but relivant for turbos

steve99 07-20-2016 12:43 AM

as @Wayno said make sure your useing correct definitions,

from memory those sdb tunes were not calid hacked like a lot of oft NA tunes

break out the hex editor and check all three calid in the rom file

also make sure your using either metric or imperial definitions if say your using kodemane47 defs or romraider or oft.

all roms are actually metric but the def may scale values for display in either metric or imperial.

Nah 07-20-2016 03:03 AM

ahh I see... no wonder all the scales are all outta wack... makes sense...

Im going to look at that info for turbo's.

Never used a hex editor actually.

So what definition file would I use to read the SBD base tune? Because when I hit the "compare maps" literally over a 150 maps have been changed and every scale is way different from what im used to seeing but like you guys said probs due to me not having the def files...

yes i suggest you read my Romraider tips thread linked below.

if your playing with roms and definitions you need to be able to use hex editor to confirm calid or calid hacks and understand how definitons work and recognise mismatch tunes and defs else bricking ecu is possible.

Tuning turbo cars is difficult, i would suggest if you want to learn then you buy the sbd turbo kit, which will come with a free unlocked tune.

you can safely bolt that kit on and run the tune which will run well, then you ca log and make minor tweaks to the tune. Starting from scratch will be extremly difficult and dangereous for most people (including myself)

Nah 07-22-2016 03:06 AM

Well... im thinking this...

i'd tune MAF at idle first... then give it light revs... then take it up to 3k. 4k. so on and so forth. just focusing on A/F.

timing would come after

its all the other factors that are involved... we could definitely make changes to a base map in regards to drive ability... I want that base map.

DustinS 07-22-2016 12:19 PM

The kit uses a 3 Bar Map sensor.

OFT no longer provides a free tune with the Kit that I know of. When they went to 10psi wastegate, Shiv decided that custom tuning was the best way to keep the car safe. So you have to pay for tuning.

It might be worth asking though. :iono:

lee1rbc 07-22-2016 11:27 PM

Yeah, for me I received the tune from Shiv. The only areas I have been willing to adjust is ignition, AFR and MAF scaling.

yep newer 10psi kits you buy custom tuning, but original lower power 7 psi kit you got free map included. Both would be open and allow further mods though by end user (at their own risk) .
