Automobile review up

A positive review that goes into some detail about the handling improvements. Adds another voice contending that these changes are real and significant. Little shift is seen in the engine's power delivery though.

P.S. - for photo buffs, there's the bonus of a great hi-res gallery with some well-composed on-track motion shots.

I'm happy about all the improvements but I'm still baffled as to why they didn't address the torque dip (or overall lack of power). Tada-san said consistently over the years that it would be addressed and we wouldn't be disappointed but it sounds like the added weight negates the benefit of the minor engine and gear ratio improvements.

I mean, the power is sufficient but they could have really brought in a whole new customer base had they simply beefed up the engine a bit more. (Although I'm not endorsing a turbo or supercharger)

When I first bought my car it felt strong from 5k rpm up thx to the torque hole. With 93 octane tune and power blocks its much more usable but less eventful. Big difference from stock. Header will be next. Who knows why manufacturers do what they do? Me thinks that noise and emissions are the main reasons for engines "character".

:bellyroll::bellyroll::bellyroll:

You're still pretending you're going to buy one if only they fixed 'X'?

Don't worry Strat, I'm getting a 2017 BRZ Performance Package as soon as they become available. I'm sure it's good enough, I'm just a bit surprised/disappointed that they didn't really address the number 1 complaint with the car. For me, I can live with it, but my point was that they may have interested many other customers had they done a little more on that front.

Oooh, already set up the escape route for not ponying up.

I'll happily congratulate you if you buy one.

No, at this point I really want a new car and there's no point in waiting anymore. I will be happy with the 2017 BRZ PP. They did a great job with everything - just wish it could have been given a bit more powah. But nothing in life is perfect.

I'll make a thread when I get it with pics and my thoughts.

Want to sell me your GSX?

I could... but I'm not letting it go for cheap since it's probably the last mostly stock '99 GSX with a manual transmission left in red (and I put a ton of money into maintaining it over the years). I was thinking about doing some sort of bid or auction for it maybe... I dunno. But obviously I have to wait until after I get my BRZ. :P

How about you give me some extra cash and I'll trade you my red Monogram for it. :burnrubber:

I miss my old DSMs.

I don't know much about DSM's but if you think an enthusiast would pay good money for it I'd try bring a trailer over ebay or autotrader or whatever. Quite a few of their auctions end up going for well under $10k so it's not just >$60k Porsche's on the site.

Sorry, I kind of have my heart set on the new BRZ now. I almost got a red Monogram before though... But yeah, I'd like to just have them both but it'd be really impractical for me right now. The style and AWD is like no other. I even prefer it in ways over the Evo. Less body roll and a good balance of comfort and handling, and less turbo lag.

Thanks, I hadn't heard of that.

Man when i was looking for a car a few years ago i tried my damn hardest to find a GSX. Unfortunetly i had to settle and get myself a 95 GST. Never regretted the purchase. Definitely miss that car a lot.
