AVH-4200NEX/AVH-8850BT Problems
These are essentially the same head unit, I've got mine wired in but it will not power up.
Only wires not connected correctly are e-Brake/Park Brake/Handbrake and Power antenna. I'm using the Metra Toyota harness as mentioned in another thread, and the scosch lexus antenna wire - all wires from the head unit are connected to their colour/color equivalent on the harness (Red-Red, Yellow-Yellow etc). Same connections worked with my previous (Parrot) headunit. No sign of life at all from the unit. |
Fusrs? Did you test unit off car ?
|
Haven't tested it off the car, 10A fuse on the head unit is good, previous headunit came out working and this one went in.
Kind of thought it may be that the park brake wire is earthed. But will check the car fuses as well in case I blew something on the car putting it in. |

It's late here but I'll try to see what's up. I just installed the 4200nex about 2 weeks ago and added all the goodies to mine. Why are you thinking the parking brake line is grounding? The unit should still come on even with the parking brake wire not connect I think. All that wire should do is lock u out of any video features. You need to check the actual ground coming out of the harness. I know nobody uses wire nuts on car wire but they can be very useful to test connections.
One more thing. When testing the unit test in accessory mode. If the unit doesn't come up when the car turn on give it at least a minute because it will black screen sometimes and takes a good minute for the unit to actually turn on |
Parking brake wire is grounded to chassis, (as it was on my previous head unit) - I'll check fuses and connections on the rest of the wiring as well as just disconnecting handbrake wire and see if I can get a peep out of it, but I'm getting worried that it's a DOA. There's no sign of life at all (no lights or anything on the front of the unit) however if I can't diagnose it myself, I'll get a professional to look at it.

Did you check to see if there's 12V on the 12V constant and 12V switched (red on Metra Harness) wires? Perhaps one of the main fuses that connects to the nav unit is blown?
|
Problem solved - 7.5Amp fuse had blown. Replaced and no issue
|
Awesome - they're easy to blow those ACC fuses especially if bare wire ;)
Now the reason why I looked at this thread to start with . . . . review ? |
Love it (after 4 hours of it working so still need to get to know it coming from a Parrot android unit). Initially the Carplay integration is just awesome, sound quality is definitely good. But there's a little setting (ie reading the manual and working stuff out), but reversing camera, all of that stuff just works out of the box. definitely worth investing in the Metra harness and the Scosche adaptor for ease of integration - although I had those already from the Parrot install. Physical buttons!!!!!

Now having had a couple of days with the unit - very impressed, the only thing I haven't done yet is navigate - because I haven't needed to.
The only downside is the length of boot time, but that's probably as I am used to the Parrot headunit I had previously. Everything else works flawlessly. Sound quality is good. |
