Help! Reverting TRD Quickshifter to stock

Hey guys and gals,

I'm reverting my BRZ back to stock (lease return - just couldn't make the numbers work to buy it back), and I've hit a snag reinstalling my stock shifter.

I had the TRD quickshifter (fantastic piece, mind you), and I have already removed all the parts. I'm now stuck at the stage of putting the OE shift control shaft back through the shift tower (sorta like the pic below, except that is for the TRD one - I want to put the stock one back in, i.e. without the adapter from the quick shifter). In the linked instructions, it would be step 2d/2e.

The problem is, I'm not sure if it's the loctite I put into the adapter for the TRD shifter, or just that the plastic is very tight - I cannot push the control shaft through the shift lever assembly, no matter how I try (I've tried running a tissue with PB blaster through the hole to try and remove the loctite). And it's so tight in there, I can't fit C-clamps or channel lock pliers to squeeze the thing in.
I've tried blasting it with soapy water and PB Blaster, to no avail.

Any suggestions? If I can't get this through, I will have to try to drill a bigger hole through it, or try my luck and limp it to a garage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
