If you want to run a bolt on Turbo kit on an engine that's built for N/A, be my guest. Honestly, if I'm spending $3500, then I'm gonna spend another $1500 or so to rebuild the engine so I -know- the engine will handle it correctly. At the same time, by doing so, you open up the door for more boost and even better power gains.

Hell the company that sells the kit even recommends (for good reason) to upgrade the internals if you're going to use the kit.

Thats just me though. Most sound-minded people won't do a turbo install on an N/A engine without beefing up internals, if need be. Honestly not sure how the 1ZZ handles small boost. It might not mess with the engine enough to cut its lifespan in half. I wouldn't take the chance though.

If you're worried about it that's called being overcautious. It depends heavily on the engine whether it can handle much boost, but just about any engine should be designed with enough safety margin to run a low boost setup say <7lbs or so :iono:. Especially if it's designed for regular grade fuel, since the jump to premium octane makes a big difference. Just speaking from a generic engineering design safety margin point here.

And you're one to talk OST, when are you going to fix your Hachi-Broku?
I've been keeping your thread alive just for that day.

BTW the Cobalt SS/TC has a lap record of 1:47.75 which is #32 for top lap time. well above Jeremy Clarkson's NSX lap record of 1:57.00 at no# 43. lawl

Heck I have a 1:48.289 lap time in a bone stock Toyota Altezza, teehee. That would be fast enough for #34 http://allch-chcar.com/saved/bannana_guitar.gif.

Talk about what? What does this FI convo have to do with my 25 year old 4A-GE that decided to break its crank pulley key from a loose pulley bolt, and take a small chunk of the crank tip with it?

Unfortunately, its maintenance time for the Fusion. Just purchased new tires, next comes a light tune-up and a transmission fluid flush, so money for the 4A-GE will have to wait.

I'm not made of gold, I'm a working man.

That's part of the 'character' of the older cars.

Reality sucks sometimes, though.

Hahaha, that 4A-GE doesn't owe me shit. I'm not mad about it.

The engine survived 1.5 years of straight AutoX (while in season that is), numerous drift nights, a few drift events, 6 years of being my DD (with my lead foot throughout every year), while sporting a light valve tap on the ex side #4 all the while, and a few overheats from a bizarre coolant hose mishap and a water pump just quitting.

It deserves a rebuild.
