updated: It's the Ashiko knob that is covered. FYI.

how is the alcantara attached to the shift knob?? any glue?

Yes the Alcantara had some glue to keep it in place in addition to the stitching as it doesn't move at all on the knob. I haven't noticed any movement in different temperatures.
