Not uncommon.

My standard response to this:
Sales numbers are only part of the equation and as a stand alone stat they don't really tell us much. If they made 1,000 and sold 500 then it is a problem. If they made 500 and sold them all it is a home run. We know they are not looking for Corolla numbers out of the car so 500 a month could be right in line with their business plan.

Normally, year over year (YoY) sales matter. Unless they don't care anymore and keep alive the platform just to attract new customers ...

Exactly! We have no idea what their business plan is. If they plan a year over year increase and it doesn't happen then ya it isn't great. If they plan a slight drop then it is per plan. They knew from day one this wasn't going to be a money maker so why would they be concerned with huge sales now?
We are just a bunch of guys trying to think logically in a business that defies logic on a daily basis.

Aren't the BRZ/86 assembled at the same plant? That means they sold almost 1000 units for the month of September in just US/Canada and not accounting for the rest of the world. Doesn't sound terrible for a niche car that's over 5 years old. Does anyone have the same statistics for the Miata/Fiata?

Either way, I'd be surprised if Toyota decides to make a 2nd generation 86.

Interesting read here: http://carsalesbase.com/us-sales-201...ports-segment/
I know half the people will say that they included cars they don't believe should be in the same segment but it is what it is.

And... OH NO THEY ARE GOING TO DROP THE MUSTANG AT THIS RATE!

All of a sudden the 1% drop the 86 took looks damned good.

That applies to many things in life. We should just stop trying to make sense.

From what I can read, looks like demand is dropping for the car

Pretty normal pattern really. Sell like mad the first couple of years after release and then drop off when used ones become available. Last year and this year are almost the same so it has leveled off more than declined.

As I pointed out before the drop at 1% is the same as or dramatically less than many others cars in the same basic category.

The higher end stuff is doing even worse though.

I'm one of these buyers. I'll buy new if I like the model and the new car to used car spread isn't very wide. Once I can buy the exact same model with a few miles on it for a 20% discount and still under warranty though I'll buy gently used.

I will always buy new now although I did indeed do the same process with used back 4 or 5 cars ago. Somebody has to buy new for there to be used ones for everybody else.
It is always fun to watch somebody here ask if they should buy new or used and have 200 guys say "Oh always buy used". Then the same group (not talking about you Hawk) show up in a thread like this and sing the blues about sales dropping. If pushing used all the time there can not be complaints about new sales going down.
