At least in Los Angeles, these have quadrupled in popularity this year. I see at least 4 a day driving between 30 minutes and 2 hours in a 50 mile radius from my house. Most of these are not the same twins. There are 4 in my parking area alone. Maybe if you don't live in a big city but in LA these are everywhere.

Cheers though, I didn't think it through well enough, and a few of your points were "oh shit" moments for me where I didn't think of that stuff. |

I will concede that they announced that it would be ending us sales in 2004 which decimated sales in 2005. There were actually still a few 2005 models that sold as late as 2007 in the US. That being said, the twins have already outsold it by a huge margin in the 4 years they have been on sale. IMO they are not going away or getting a major update until they have been in production at least 6 years. The drop off in sales is likely due to competing against used versions of itself, changeover to the 16 model year and a new shiny MX-5 invading. Still there are a lot of cars that sell less than 1500 (combined) units a month and they go on and on. |

But yes on all points you made which are relevant to the discussion. Nothing surprising here, business as usual imo. |

I didn't make up that the numbers are dealer sales. |

On my trip last week, on 403 I saw a blue BRZ speeding pretty damn fast, we were going around 120, but the guy was coming in much faster, until he caught up with a block of cars. No surprised the GTA guys get boned with the insurance rates, they deserve em with that kind of fast driving :P. In KW, I cross the town South to North for work, I feel like I see plenty for such a small place, figures we have many younger people, who are probably in tech jobs (or in their parents basement :D) and they are into these kind of cars, unless they buy the BMWs or Audis :). I actually see a lot owners in late 20, mid 30s people who arent all "swag and yo", just regular folks, makes for a pretty nice meets, as few as I've attended over last 3-4 years. For being non-"race car" guy, its nice, not intimidating. I actually see lesss Zs than twins in our area. They got older and cheaper, but for some reason not as many younger kids get them. They sure do go for the G35 more, cause luxury bro! Some times they just give it the boot and kick my ass as I'm slowly crawling my way, im not mad, after dealing with oil eating VQ35 in both Maximas in the family, I officially sworn off Nissan :) |
I just read that Ford only moved 10k Focus STs in 2014. They moved less than 5k Fiesta STs. Things aren't so dire here for the twins, IMO.
|
So in US there's only 60K twins sold approx?

Two questions.
1.) Do we have any 2015 data yet for an update? 2.) I read this article from 2012 about how they aren't manufacturing that many but the ones that are have been flying away from the dealers in a couple days. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2012...ype=blogs&_r=1 I don't know if that is still the case, although I had to drive to Massachusetts to test drive one and it was a 2013 with 60k.. There was another one in a part of Connecticut that was newer but further away than the Mass. dealer but that was it! It was also cheaper to buy a 2016 new from the factory in Series.HyperBlue than this 2015 in CT with some miles on it. Some dealers were telling me they are selling too fast and some were telling me they are selling to too slow so they aren't producing as much. Either way I don't care I kind of like that it is a rare bird, makes it more interesting. It feels exclusive. I just wonder if Subaru is doing that on purpose or if the demand just really isn't all that high. It does seem like a niche car built for enthusiasts regardless and I'm perfectly happy with that. :w00t: |
