The average buyer probably would get more use out of the Veloster. The Veloster isn't sold as a hot hatch but a faster version of the regular car (no suspension mods) and it's built on the decidedly unsporty Elantra platform (Mac struts, torsion beam).

Different cars for different markets.

It is a car for people who don't care at all about driving dynamics (handling, suspension, transmission, etc). It is a hipster type car with regards to styling and features. It certainly will attact buyers.

I have owned Hyundai's I get what they are about, but the car is anything but a sports car (which the name Veloster implies).

I sat in the Veloster before I got the FR-S. No room to wear a helmet. Tells you their priorities. They think only short people should race. :(

Honda made the same statement with the s20...errr well, all of their cars to be honest.

I'm going to take a wild guess that the sales numbers of these cars will mirror their production/import numbers almost exactly. The relative scarcity of them on dealer lots tells me that they sell them nearly as fast as they get them. I'll speculate one step further that the reason more FR-S are sold is because Toyota has more power/clout in Japan (and the rest of the world) and that they have used this power to secure an agreement that the FR-S are produced in higher numbers than the BRZ. They are both made in the same factory and I'd be willing to bet Toyota holds a larger stake in this production facility. [/rampant speculation]

I think the RX-7 had bulges in the roof for driver and passenger.

I don't follow.

Honda didn't make the RX-7.

Just saying that other manufacturers do care. Just not Honda, I suppose.

1,230 FR-S were sold in September of 2013.

Interesting how there was a similar drop in sales last year from approx. 1900 in August --> 1200 in September. If the trend holds true, sales should pick up again in November.

Students buying cars before the school year?

End of summer dealer sales?

It is interesting. At least Sept 13 is larger number than Sept 12.

EAGLE5 10-02-2013 03:49 PM

There were three BRZs at the Subaru dealer on Sunday. None sold but all were sat in multiple times.

Anaxilus 10-02-2013 03:54 PM

Various pubs were saying sales would be down across the board for everyone in Sept because of a calendar anomaly.

thill 10-02-2013 03:59 PM

Calendar anomaly, and remember, they stopped producing 13's and started ramping up 14's. I suspect dealers have fewer inventory right now. Locally, I am seeing fewer inventory..

Being an employee at the largest dealership in the world has it's perks :D. I got a 2014 asphalt frs that freshly arrived on the lot a couple days prior to my purchase.
