Harness mounting in the rear with harness bar?
 

Please excuse my juvenile question, but..
I currently have a harness bar installed and have been running my harness strapped to it. Planning on switching to a Takata Drift II snap-on harness.

I know you shouldn't straight mount the rear snap-on to to the rear seat mounting points due to its extreme angle, but if I feed the harness through/over the harness bar first then down there, would that be safer? Or would it be best to just wrap this one around the harness also?

Actually, that's a very good question.
It's not the mounting point thats dangerous, but the angle.

The only bad thing i see out of this is the belt stretching at impact. Im interested in hearing what you all have to say.

I just spoke to the owner of HMS motorsports who is the distributor of Takata Racing USA and Stilo helmets. He says it is absolutely okay to mount the shoulder belts over the harness bar and to the DOT approved rear seat lap belt harness points. It is obviously better to wrap the shoulder belts to the harness bar but only if the harness bar is approved to take an impact load of 6000lbs. Otherwise, at impact, with a passenger using the same harness bar, the harness bar can possibly collapse. Also, make sure the harness bar is not too high (over your shoulders significantly). In the case of a roll-over, you will move up the seat if the harness bar is mounted too high.

With that said, you should cross the shoulder harness to an X at the back where you mount strap the harness. Anything longer than 18inches should be crossed.

These street-spec Takata Drift Harness are made with only 12-15% elongation (with the street user in mind) so they will not stretch as much as the Race HANS Device 5-6 point harnesses.
