I can no longer recommend Fumoto for the twins.

The ground clearance is just not adequate and the nipple is too long even on the standard model.

I knew it looked sketchy in reference to the skid plate when I installed it. I love the idea, but it just doesn't work here. Maybe a shorty, but I'd still be worried.

I do have to give them credit, it held up pretty good for the hit it took.

That isnt the short nipple valve is it?

Luftwaffel 06-27-2016 01:22 PM

Standard like many recommend and are running. I wouldn't even trust the shorty though. The skid plate doesn't offer a ton of clearance in the first place.

Just curious, what did you hit?

Luftwaffel 06-27-2016 01:31 PM

Thing is, your skid plate will flex as it scrapes over something. When that happens, your Fumoto is now at a lower point in reference to the skid plate and therefore no longer protected. This is why, even with a shorty valve, I wouldn't run one on these. Wish I could take that one back. I'm actually not sure if the oil pan is in tact since the valve won't even act as a simple plug at this point.

I'm not 100% sure to tell you the truth. I think it was a concrete retainer between some grass and rocks. Hard to explain but I would equate it to a mild speed bump. Nothing that sent off alarm bells in my head.

Thanks!~ Love this kind of info. I was on Ebay/Amazon thinking of just buying it. I slammed my head plenty last time I did my change. I'm sure this isnt common with many but lots of ground clearance issues where I live.

No, a divider to aid with retaining rocks in the parking lot. It's literally meant to be driven over. It wasn't even half the height of that.

This is why I never liked this option...I'll stick to my regular OEM bolt.

Shady195 06-27-2016 02:15 PM

Granted, not many if any before you reported anything like this.. but this is exactly why i will stick to using a bolt.

I have the shorty but I sweat it for the same reason. Thanks for sharing.

the scrapes on the skid plate seem to indicate the hit was pretty hard...nonetheless, I run the fumoto drain on my car, and although robust, it won't be as tough as the oem bolt!
