FRS Fluid Changing (Beginner)

I've never changed my fluids myself before. I've been reading guides everywhere on how to do everything I need to. It all boils down to what I get... I've been reading a lot of reviews regarding royal purple, amsoil, motul, eneos and all that. However, I purchased my car used and the previous owner seemed to have only used royal purple engine oil. I'll probably just stick to that and keep putting in royal purple. I changed my oil from a local mechanic who used Mobil1 0w20 before I noticed the paperwork hidden under the sparewheel well (wtf...?) anyways. The reason for this post is mainly for me to learn what fluids I need to change for this car and a brief discussion regarding which product to use. I am literally new at doing any of this so please be nice ot me :C.

Engine Oil: Will-be switching to Royal Purple by next week
Diff fluid: ???
Transmission fluid: ???
Oil Filter: ??? (Was going to swap to a different filter because I'm not sure if subaru exceeds OEM requirements. anyone know?)

Please halp...

Royal purple isn't bad, just tried it at the track. I will be trying other oils as well to see how they hold up to the track. Next on my list is amsoil because a friend of mine swears by it. For diff and trans fluid most people on this forum use Motul. Some use Motul for engine oil as well.

What are you doing to your car that your oil filter needs to "exceed OEM requirements?"

the OEM filter is fine.

For Oil, a lot of us, myself included, like Eneos Sustina 0w20 every 7500-10k miles.
Trans and Diff Fluid: Motul Gear 300 every 30k.
OEM filter.

You'll need crush washers for the oil drain plug unless you're using a Fumoto valve or similar, as well as for the diff drain/fill plugs.

For other fluids - brake fluid, clutch fluid, blinker fluid, wiper fluid - just use whatever's on sale as it makes no difference for 99% of people.

For average driving, I don't think that the "brand" of fluids makes a heck of a lot of difference.

Just stick with the specs shown in the manual.

As far as the oil filter, I reckon the OEM one is just fine.

Oh, my ...... "kind of broke" and "want my baby to get the best of everything" in back to back sentences ...... :iono:

Yes, buying name brand products for your car is a good thing.

And I can appreciate you wanting to "spoil your baby".

However, most of the time ........ the "baby" doesn't know or care about the difference.

For example, you could buy a stroller at Wal-Mart for $39 or a designer stroller for $500.

All the baby cares about is that it has a sun shade and it doesn't tip over.

The parents may care, for the status of the expensive stroller, ..... but the baby doesn't give a dirty diaper.

Thank you for your wisdom sensei. I see what you mean. So basically as long as I don't go nuts and break my stroller the brands don't mean much aye?

okay this is what I'll probably do. I did hear about Eneos..

If you're broke just use a decent quality synthetic as Sustina is going to run you about $100 an oil change and it won't make much difference to 99% of people.

Just use the Toyota Ow-20, BLACK toyota/subaru oil filter. It's what is meant for the car. Also, Motul 300 NON-LS in trans and diff is what's popular. Not only good results, but easier because you can use if for both. There's also about 500 threads about this you can read.
