Diff and gear oil. Fill to overflow, or service manual capacity??
I am going to be changing my diff and gear oils again with lighter weight oil.
Last time i did them, i filled until the fill hole dribbled. BUT I fit a lot more in than the service manual recommends. So what is the go here? I dont want to have too much oil in there sapping power from my 86 series race car.. I have always filled to the fill hole before. manual states 2.2 for GB and 1.1-1.2 for diff. I fit appx 2.8-3l in GB and 1.5-1.6 in the diff |
Oh, I'd suggest you just fill them up till they won't take any more and call it good.

Both are fine. If you want every ounce of performance, fill it to capacity as specified

Verify they are level along both pitch and roll axes, fill until overflow, wait a bit, top them off to make sure. Don't overfill.

Fill until it comes out, then have a beer, then put the plug back in with a fresh crush washer.

I just try to fill close to capacity indicated in shop manual.

I just finished a clutch install, and I filled the transmission gear box until the oil started to seep back out the fill hole. I measured the oil remaining in the last bottle. Based on what’s left, I filled to about 2.6 liters. Will I have any issues with the extra fluid being in there or should I drain it and refill to 2.2L? Thanks
