PERTH - Tinting & Opticoating.

Can anyone share some details if they get it done? cheers

You can get it done from Freedom Car Care since they're the only approved Opti-coater in Perth.

Sadly a lot more expensive than the guys on the east-coast. Its put me off doing it.

$775, count me out too.

Got mine Opti coated last weekend by Mark @ Freedom. He does a good job and is a really nice bloke. I'll post pics up later. Sadly I had my camera setup wrong so image quality was sh!t.
Also going to get it tinted next week. Got a guy coming over tomorrow to do my other car and check out the 86 while he's here.

Let you know how we go!

Did you get one coat or two @sirus ? What was your final price - anything like the east coast pricing?

sirus 07-06-2012 08:41 AM

I got 3 coats. Total price including all prep, exterior, interior, wheels and door lining was $1400.
If you want, you can have a look over my car. Then you can decide what you want to do.

Getting my car tinted @ TKO tinting on Monday. 22% on driver/passenger windows, 16% on rear and back 1/4's. Around $325 if I recall(for the initial quote)

I didn't realize the 86's windows had a slight tint in the glass. That's why I was wondering why the factory LEGAL(35%) tint on the demo car at City Toyota looked so dark.

I might get the tinting changed to something lighter instead now. I've noticed that the interior of the 86 seems so much darker than what I am used to.

Someone else was saying here that a detailer said a second coat of opti-coat was hardly worth it (diminishing returns or somesuch as another coat dissolves part of the coat underneath) let alone a 3rd.

Yeah I think it has polarised glass? It'd be good to have a look at yours to see how it turns out. I don't want too dark, just a bit darker than what it is now.
Mine got quoted around the $250 mark but i'm going to remove the rear parcel shelf myself.

I don't think that it would dissolve the coat underneath, otherwise it'd mess up your paint work right? Also, you can re-apply the opti coat later on down the line if you really want so what's the difference? :iono:
I figured that an extra coat makes it that little bit thicker therefore it'd be harder to get to the paint work. That's just my thinking. I didn't mind paying for the extra coats/service.

Still havent seen a white 86 as of yet. Quite rare in Perth it seems, yet @sirus and @stevo_12v have one. haha.
Would love to check out the 2 white ones next to each other to get a clear view of how the Opti-coat looks.

lol mine only comes out on the weekend and stevo_12v only got his the other day ;)
The opti-coat (in my opinion) looks like a car that has just been waxed/polished. The main difference is that the opti-coat hardens and acts more like another layer of clear coat but it's meant to be better than a clear coat and not noticable and non discolouring un-like clear vynil wrap.
