Getting the most out of the stock FR-S Projectors.

Hey all,

My old GTI had HID lights and honestly the halogen projectors on the FR-S leave something to be desired. I'm not interested in spending the money to swap in BRZ lights or do an aftermarket HID conversion.

My question is simple: what is the best way to get the most of the of the stock projectors? Better bulbs? I really don't know, I don't know much about lights/lighting.

Thanks for the help!

I plan to order a pair of Osram NightBreakers. They were a great improvement on my other cars ( H4 ) and I am hoping for the same results.

Are the stock fr-s bulbs also h4?

No, I think they are H11. ( can't verify ATM though, at work )

They are H11; I recommend Sylvania Silverstar ZXE; awesome quality & look very similar to HID already thanks to our stock projectors =D
I'll try to have a cutoff pic up tonight

I've got a set of Silverstar Ultras that I have no use for since swapping projectors. Theyve got maybe 20hrs on them.

I did notice a difference between them and stock.

Just put some HID 6000K's in there!

do you know what the DLR light is -- size ?
im guessing the same 'whitter' bulb can also be swapped there also....

My Legacy eats those Silverstars for some reason. I get 3-4 months on them, so I switched to the Nightbreakers, 9 months and going strong, and I like the light better for driving. So I will stick with them in the FR-S for now.

I had the regular Silverstars and they sucked eggs. Had them in an 07 G5 GT and they were pitiful. Went through 3 or 4 in one year and put the original bulbs back in. Look for something else. Not sure what the ZXE's are but maybe they have a better longevity. I believe Osram is an offshoot of Sylvania or vice-versa.

Yes they are. The Silverstars have blue filter or something on them, which makes a cool color but reduces the amount of light, then they run them hotter to get decent light out of them, so they do not live as long. I'll have to track down the link on that info. It is from a Bobtheoilguy type of dude that is a light smartie. I know a lot of people like that look, so they are popular.

But our 05 legacy has really poor headlights, so I like the amount of light the nightbreakers throw out better. They also made a huge difference over the stock headlight bulbs in my Veloster also.
