Car won't start

I hope there is a quick fix and I'm just missing something. I'm a new owner so bear with me if this is a dumb question...

I get into my car and the dash light with the car and lock is flashing. I put my key in the ignition and the car responds with the normal beeping sound. I turn the key and the only light I see is the oil light. I let go of the key and the entire dash lights up like a Christmas tree and flashes sporatically.

But it won't start. the starter isn't even cranking. Nothinfg.

Any ideas?

The lights do dim when I turn the key.

if its a manual you need to depress the clutch pedal

maybe battery terminals are loose/need cleaning or battery flat?

That's my only guess. I'll try to jump the car and drive it to get the battery tested.

I just wasn't sure if there was something stupid like car not starting due to improper door locking procedure. Hmm...

Like mentioned, my guess would be a weak battery.

I took the car battery to autozone. It read 11.5 V. They charged her up and it showed full voltage. It looks like I might have just a light on I guess.

Thanks for the help guys.

If your battery was down to 11.5V that means that

* maybe, your car is using more juice than the alternator is putting back

* maybe, the alternator is not working right

* maybe, you have a short that is draining the battery

* maybe, the battery is on it's way out

So, if it does it again ....... pick one......I'd start with a new battery...... :)

My original battery barely survived the winter and then the car would not start as yours did. Replaced the battery and it's been fine ever since. I jumped mine by pushing it down the street and putting it in second and letting out the clutch and it started, but I got the dreadful traction light and check engine light when I did. Thought I was screwed. Disconnected the battery for a while and it went away thank goodness. If you're a member of Costco, they have decent prices on Interstate batteries. They used to have their own brand of batteries and they were a Consumers Best Buy but for some reason they got rid of them.

Fill it with water. Don't forget.
