Backup Camera and Amp

I have a brand new Scion FR-S (manufactured 4/16) and I am swapping out the stock stereo with backup camera with one that also has navigation and Sirius. I have searched high and low and cannot find the proper wiring for the backup camera and power to the amp to turn it on. I have found descriptions of a 16 pin connector that I don't have and descriptions of a 28 pin connector that I have but the wires for the camera aren't in it, only the reverse wire.

Has anyone figured this out? Otherwise I plan to ohm out the harness the hard way and will post pic of what I find. Also from what I have read the camera needs 6VDC, so I will be making a voltage regulator to power it and will post the details.

I solved my problems. The amp is powered by the standard connector via the blue wire in most adapters and connects to the brown factory wire.

I found the camera on a 24 pin connector that only has four wires.

Orange Camera Video -
Black Camera Video +
Yellow Camera Battery +
Brown Camera Ground
*These do have some gray checks but you can easily identify them given these colors.

Keep in mind that the camera uses 6VDC so you need to use a voltage regulator, not 12VDC!

Thanks for posting that.

Here's a rotated/cropped version of your picture, with pin numbers added:

The colors appear to be black, white, orange, red. Is your picture from the harness in your FR-S, or a pic you found elsewhere?

Would you please confirm the colors you saw, and match them to the pin numbers?

Good catch SVXdc, I mixed up the colors between the dash and trunk harnesses.

Trunk Harness at Camera (four pin):
Colors are for the harness plugging into the camera pigtail wiring.
2 - Light Blue Camera Video -
1 - Orange Camera Video +
4 - Brown Camera Ground
3 - Yellow Camera Battery +

Dash Factory Harness (24 pin):
24 - Orange Camera Video -
12 - Black Camera Video +
23 - Red Camera Video Ground
11 - White Camera Battery +

Let me know if you have any other questions. It would be easy for me to take a picture of the trunk wiring.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be interested to see pictures of the camera harnesses in the trunk -- both the 'from car' side and the 'into camera' pigtail.

What are the model numbers on the OEM HU that was originally in your FR-S?

If you ever pull your new HU again, it would be nice to see clearer pictures of that 24-pin plug, as well as the other factory harnesses that were connected to the OEM HU. Looking to see if there are any new (possibly undocumented) signals on any of those harnesses.

To retain the OEM camera, people might find that using half of Metra's AX-TOYCAM3 is helpful:

Some GT86 models outside North America use the smaller 4-pin "Eclipse" style connector for the rear camera. This other harness looks like it will work for that: AX-MAZCAM

In both cases, you'll still also need a 6V voltage converter.

You can offer the unused half of either of those harnesses to someone who wants to connect an aftermarket camera into the same OEM HU (and they will probably work for a few other Toyota/Scion OEM HU models, too).

First, thanks for posting this info. I have a 2013 FRS and found a 2016 Head Unit on ebay for cheap. Everything plugged right in and worked fine. I don't have a backup camera and after some research, found that almost everything out there is for the 2015 head unit.

I found this and am hoping that it might do the trick. Thoughts?
